Is it more convenient to have a car at UCSD? How often would I expect to use it if I bring one? And, does it come with a cost such as a parking pass?

Yes, I would say it is extremely convenient to have one. I have my car and I absolutely love it. This past year the permits cost around $530.

How much parking is available on campus for students? I don't want to bring my car for the three hour drive, and then have it turn out that there is no available parking.

Well if you just plan on staying around UCSD and the La Jolla area, there is pretty reliable transportation and I wouldn't think you'd need a car if this is the case. Having a car isn't really a problem if you're not interested in going far away from the campus.

However, if you'd like to explore the rest of San Diego and especially the downtown area (for nightlife, restaurants, sporting events, etc) I would recommend having a car. Downtown is about 30ish minutes from La Jolla and unless you want to sit on a bus for twice that amount of time I'd suggest you get yourself a car.

yea the muir parking lots have room, if you cant find anywhere else

behold, the power of google!

UCSD Blink: UCSD Transportation Services

you can always do what i did and bribe someone to buy you a "B" parking permit :)

how hard is it to get a parking permit because I want to bring my car so that I can drive home if I want on the weekend?

any student can get an "S" parking permit.

the better question is whether you'll get a decent parking spot.

what is considered a bad parking spot? like far away from your dorm??

well, what do you think constitutes a bad parking spot?

haha i guess that's what I would consider a bad parking space. thanks tho

So I'm assuming that even if you get a super expensive apartment on campus, it doesn't come with a parking spot right? :(

What is the difference between the different permits? (S, A, B, ect...)

S = Student
A = Faculty
B= Graduate Student

There is definitely limited parking on campus. UCSD sells more permits than there are spaces. Unless you want to park in Regents, which is across the 5 - you take a shuttle to get there. Pretty sure there's always parking over there.

I've never visited the area, so this question might be stupid. Can I park on the streets of the neighboring areas and walk back to the college? I don't mind trekking from my car to the college.

Yeah you'd have to walk pretty far though! What college?

I'm in Sixth College.

The only place I can think of nearby 6th is like by Ralphs and that whole shopping center... I'd say it's a good 15 minute walk at least. Anyone else? Man I haven't heard of anyone doing that sounds sketchyyy! no offense hahaha

How far is the reagants parking lot from revelle?

Haha. Just trying to figure out my options if I can't get a parking space. I wouldn't want to waste money for a space and then end up without one. :|
I'll be visiting the college and surrounding area soon, so I'll see if it's worth it to bring my car. Unfortunately, I can't go on admit day because I have games.
