Kinda weak there too- but I'm giving it again and hopefully I'll get above 2100 this time.

Solid leadership positions- Prefect, Class secretary- had a real impact on me.
Debate CLub- 1 year
Founded a Recycling Program- kind of a big deal in my school at least
Organizer of christmas event- this was just for leisure coz it's just like organizing one big party- just in school alongwith teachers and principal.

Volunteer at Old age home for half a year-once a week
Taught slum children english in a nursery-everyday of this summer- was actually the best summer so far.
Part of a Youth organization that does some social work- pretty cool too.

Essay-I finished the NYU supplement but the essay is coming along real slow...can't put down a solid emotion on paper.

Hook- maybe the leadership positions- although I'm in a new school for my senior year so don't know how much they would help now.
and my all-rounded personality.
Weakness: grades and SAT

NYU-CAS is my absolute first choice and I've always wanted to go there.

You're not very specific with your SAT's, if at all. 2100 is a comfy spot to shoot for. Unfortunately with so many applicants they have to give the SAT's some more importance than other schools.

Make sure other parts of your application show through. Your all around personality may be great but NYU can't tell unless you show them through your essays and recommendations. Don't be too discouraged about grades but they are pretty much done unless you plan to apply RD.

For example I got a C in AP Calculus BC in my first marking period but my teachers' letters of recommendation were really, really strong, as were my essays (I spent months on it, which I'm not proud of saying, but I was borderline neurotic with those). The essays are important b/c you have 100% control over it. Make sure they give something unique but true about yourself. You could write about your experience in volunteering in the nursery but pick out a specific event that happened, why that's important to you, and what it says about yourself without telling directly. So many people write about their time helping out disadvantaged folks but it only succeeds when the writer makes the reader think.

you mentioned fine art and a portfolio, but interested in CAS. What is your possible major? just a little confused. BTW, just a suggestion, don't take it the wrong way, if you are going to write about the nursery kids, please do not refer to them as "slum" kids. Does,nt sound right. -

I want to finish my art portfolio for me- it's just something I'm passionate about. I'm majoring in Economics or math or something similar to that.
And yeah, my SATs aren't that great- but I'm retaking them and so hopefully I'll do better next time. And yes, I'm applying early so we'll see...
And thanks for the advice pertaining to the essays. And my essays are turning into an obsession now.
I wanted to know- I changed schools for my senior year so I kinda stopped almost all of my activities like sports and the leadership positions are definitely gone- will it matter? I don't know if all the work I did would just not be acknowledged. Maybe I should finally have that talk with my counsellor. What should I tell her?

Grades are on lower side, SAT I am assuming if less than 2050 is on lower side, EC's are nice but a little bit accross the board, maybe focus on the writing/art as a passion. Best thing you can do at this point is write a great (not cliche) essay, Get test scores up, maybe on extra info area write about your move senior year how it affected you grade/EC wise. Applying ED is a must, you have to think about what you'd do if you got GSP'ed (maybe youre best shot of getting in)

Technically my EC's are just three-sports, art and leadership positions. Writing is just a hobby. Volunteering is what I like to do.
So, my main focus would be on leadership and sports.
And Yes! I realize I have to take my SATs again, SATs aren't everything, right? A guy in my school with insanely easy subjects and a 2000 on the SAT got into NYU ED. And I'm taking the ACT too. So, I'm giving it everything I've got...
I'm really excited about my essay-I'm letting my teacher read it tomorrow- she would be the first person to give feed-back. Loads of corrections I bet.
And I'll ask the guidance counsellor to write about my school changes and how it's affected me EC wise and grade wise.
If I get GSP'ed...I would be ok with that. I think. I'll have to think about that.
Thanks for drawing my attention to stuff I hadn't considered before this.
