i'm a senior at a large public high school in southern california and I ultimately want to get into ibanking. i figured NYU would be the best place to start

okay, i realize that Stern is a long-shot, but i figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. is it truly impossible? should i apply to CAS--could i even get into CAS? can i still get into ibanking from CAS? (if i did go the CAS route, i'd probably major in econ)

Econ in CAS is just as good as, if not better than, Econ in Stern.
The main difference is that Stern econ is more applied, whereas CAS econ is more theory.

Your UW GPA is going to hurt you. The NYU average is 3.65UW, with CAS and Stern topping 3.7

You test scores are average for Stern and slightly above average for CAS.

Stern will be a slightly larger reach than CAS.

I also don’t really think that counts as a hook. Just something diverse and interesting. Hooks are things like URMs, first gens, etc.

That said, I would say CAS is a low/mid reach and Stern is mid reach

Haha, you’re right…i meant to put first gen & add the other part in as an extra, but i guess i forgot
I know, I hate my GPA. Ugh. It could easily be a 3.8~4.0 if I wasn’t stupid sophomore year. My ECs are really lacking, too…but I feel like I might be forgetting some things.
I know you can only apply to one college, so should I just apply to CAS, hopefully get in, and work my butt off for a high GPA & internships, or should i take a huge chance and go for Stern?

apply to stern but check the box on the NYU supplement that says apply for another college if denied first choice (or says something like that) for CAS

hmm, i checked the common app and i don’t think i can specify which other college i’d like to be considered for if im rejected from my first choice D:
are first semester senior grades taken into account? If they are, then I can work my butt off for straight A’s, which’ll raise my UW up maybe a point/half a point, and my W up a point or two. would that make any difference, or not really? :/

If you’re applying Regular Decision, then yes, your senior year grades will taken into account.

As far as applying - To my knowledge, you can only apply to one school. If you’re applying to CAS you can be deferred to LSP. But, I do not believe that it is the case that if you’re applying for Stern and not accepted that they will consider you for another school.
