CAS Foreign Language Placement

So I've been looking @ the foreign language requirements for Cornell, and from what I understand, it's mandatory to take some foreign language related credits unless you exempt yourself via graduating from a school that does not use or english, or testing out of it.

I was wondering if anyone knew how hard it is to test out of a foreign language completely; like is it equivalent to scoring a 5 on the language's respective AP test, or harder/easier?

If it matters, the language I'm currently taking in HS (and hoping to place out of) is Spanish, but I'd rather not take any foreign language studies when I'm at Cornell.

Sorry, but you will not be able to place out of Spanish using the high school class. What you will be able to do is to test yourself into a higher level Spanish class which means you will only have to take one class or you can take 3 semesters of another language. The language requirements are pretty rigid - no S/U options or transferring them in from another school. If you are dreading this, take the classes as soon as possible and be done with them.
