So basically I'm interested in applying to CAS in Cornell but the requirements on their website say 3 years of foreign language. (with senior year I'd have only taken 2). They say 'explain discrepancies separately'. Even if I come up with an explanation (perhaps with my Guidance counselor) is that still a huge hit to admission chances? Could I tell them if I get accepted I'll take an approved language course at a nearby college over the summer or something? My strong points are in music/science. I'm probably not applying engineering because I've heard for Regular decision (which is when I'm applying) all the ivy league qualified people interested in engineering will apply there like a mid-low reach school and they normally have incredibly good EC's etc.
Any advice is greatly appreciated

wow sorry that should read “explain deficiencies separately”*

CAS has a lower acceptance rate than Engineering. If you’re very strong in math/science, it’s probably easier to get into Engineering. That said, from my experience, it seems the reason Engineering has a higher acceptance rate is that only people with really strong math/science backgrounds apply, and Engineering is more forgiving of not being well-rounded, whereas in CAS, you need to have done well in all subject areas.

I think all you can do is call the CAS admissions office and ask. I don’t really understand the high school language requirement since the college will make you learn a second language to proficiency in order to graduate anyway…
