CAS or CALS?

HI. I'm going to apply ED to Cornell (I'm a junior right now) and I am unsure which school is best for me. Of course, this decision is premature right now but I would like to start thinking about it. I know I have a lot of time and I am going to apply to Cornell Summer College where I will probably get some more advice. But what do you guys think? Right know I am between
1) CAS - economics major
2) CALS - applied economics major
3) CALS - AEM program

I believe 2 and 3 are not the same?

Anyway, before I was pretty sure I wanted to apply to the AEM program but after second thought I realized this may not be the best option. I took into consideration that my stats are not as impressive as I wish they were and AEM is INCREDIBLY difficult to get into. In my school I was placed into the "science department" so my high school classes are largely science related but I tried very hard to get involved in business related clubs and classes. I thought AEM would appreciate my trying to branch out. However, then I thought since I am not in the "business department" I do not have as much expertise in business as the people applying from there so maybe it would be better to go into liberal arts to see if this is for me. Maybe I should apply AEM first choice and CAS second?

Thanks in advance.
These are my stats btw if you have a second to look at them:

im pretty sure 2 and 3 are the same

and 2 is more of business whereas 1 is more hard economics

kind of like the difference between chemistry and chemical engineering

But if I apply with AEM as my first choice and CAS (econ) as my second choice and AEM rejects me cuz its has such a low acceptance rate, do I have the same chance of getting accepted to CAS (econ) as if I applied to CAS (econ) as my first choice?

No. 10char.

What about:
Applying to CAS (econ) as first choice vs applying to CAS (econ) as first choice and CALS (AEM) as a second choice? Are my chances of getting in the same or higher with the second option b/c even though AEM is harder to get into, it is possible CAS adcoms might think I am a better fit for it?

^ It is possible, though I would say highly unlikely.

I’m pretty sure I read (though I could be wrong since it was a while ago) that 98% of students accepted, are accepted into their first choice school. This really makes sense, especially since when I applied 3 years ago, applying to multiple schools wasn’t an option. Also, Cornell is not expanding the size of the freshmen class, so it makes sense that there is no way to “sneak” in through some sort of application manipulation. If you are a fit for Cornell and the program you are applying for, you will get in, if not, you won’t. AEM and CAS Econ are pretty different programs anyway. You can’t really increase your chances based on how you fill out your application. Apply to the program you feel you are a better fit for and try to convey that through your essays.
