Right now I am unsure of whether I want to apply to Stern or CAS.
All I know is that I really loved NYU the last time I visited, and would love to attend the school.
My stats however, are pretty average when it comes to to Stern:
2210 SAT/ 32 ACT, decent ecs, 3.9 uw GPA, asian,

But are my chances any better applying to the college of arts and sciences?

Applying to NYU at first was just a shot at getting into one of the most prestigious Business programs in Stern, and thus more like a reach (I was considering doing business only if I got into somewhere top-notch like Stern), but the more I think about it the more I just want to get into the new york location, and so I am thinking about applying to the CAS to study something like international relations and or economics?

From what I understand Stern and Tisch are really what sets NYU apart from any other school, but what about its college of arts and sciences??

Am I better off going to a UMichigan/UIllinois/UVA/UCLA and getting a BS or BA there, instead of going to NYU and getting a BS/BA (not to mention their notoriously poor financial aid)

NYU's CAS is a really good school, and the Econ program is very strong. A lot of the Econ profs actually teach Econ courses in Stern as well, and colleges with strong Business programs generally have strong Econ programs as well. However, if you want Business, do Stern NOT CAS, you might regret it later, then you'll have to transfer. CAS doesn't have business majors, it's all liberal arts. Your stats look pretty strong to me.

Econ is not Business. Econ is a lib arts major which teaches you the broad theories and policies of economics. In CAS, you have all the MAP requirements. Business involves a lot of Econ, but you pick a concentration like Finance, Accounting, Marketing, etc. If you really prefer Business over Econ, go for Stern. CAS is pretty competitive as well, it's not like it's a shoe-in and Stern's the only competitive college. Btw, if you really want NY, I suggest you apply to Fordham U's Business program as well, also a great B school. good luck with Stern

Yeah I agree, go for Stern. If you really want it, don't settle for something else. Last year, I was going to apply to CAS because I didn't think I would been able to have a good enough portfolio to apply to Tisch Film and well...I realized that was a stupid decision and I got the balls to make something and now...Tisch 2013! :) haha

i also want to go to stern.. but I also want to go to NYU. So im afraid if i didnt get into Stern, I would be like "UGGGGGH if I applied to CAS i might have gotten in" and regret trying to get into the harder program........
