CAS or Wharton?

I know they are both reaches, Wharton being much more of a reach then CAS. I want to do business so obviously my first choice would be Wharton, but is that an unrealistic reach? I'd almost rather study econ at CAS then go to another school. So is it worth applying to Wharton, or is that too much of a reach and should I just go for CAS? Thanks!

ACT 4 times? Dont stress the test that much. 3 is enough. If you really want to study business just apply to Wharton and see what happens.

Heads up, unweighted GPA is pretty much all colleges of this caliber will care about, so I would look that up. 3.75 sounds a titch low, keep working to improve that.
Are you not going to take any SATs (and more importantly for Wharton, SAT II (math))? Your ACT looks okay, I would look into the SAT. Some people do a lot better on it, you never know!
I don’t know if this is possible, but does anyone know if you can get into CAS, then transfer to Wharton the next year? That might help this mate out a little bit.

^ I’ve seen people with as low as 3.6 UW get into UPenn.

they must’ve had something else going for them?

Indeed. :]

they don’t superscore ACTs…only SATs. They take your best overall score though.

Your chances at Wharton aren’t great. I would apply ED to CAS, which is by no means a guarantee. What type of school you go to matters as well. A 3.75 at a top prep school is not a 3.75 at a regular public school (FYI). Also, you don’t want to take more and more tests. I don’t know why you thought it was a good idea to take the ACT four times!? Colleges DON’T LIKE THIS!

I’d say I go to a top private school in MA. And also, for the ACT, you only send the test you want. It’s not like the SAT where you need to send them all. So the school will only know I’ve taken the test 4 times if I decide to send all 4 tests, which I wouldnt.

if you really want to study business go for wharton. if you are applying cas but really want wharton they will see through it and you will get rejected

Wharton is my first choice, but would it almost be a waste of ED to apply? My other top two are Northwestern and Cornell, would ED be more beneficial to one of them? I just don’t want to waste such a valuable thing such as ED at a school I do not have a chance at.

dude you have a good chance. i applied ed, got deferred, and got in rd (wharton)

although i had student government and i don’t see that you have any major leadership stuff. i had only 2150SAT and about a 93gpa and i got in. you have a fair chance. if you really want to go there, might as while take the risk

dlesk, sure you had some other strong ECs going for you. your message is very encouraging to apply to Wharton. Can you tell something else about your stats Rank, GPA, EC?

There’s really not that much of a difference between Wharton and CAS. Apply to Wharton if you want Wharton. If you can’t get into Wharton, odds are you can’t get into the College either.

strongly disagree with that one

What is this based on? Besides, he can use score choice to send his best ACT and no one will ever know how many times he took it.

If you want to study business, apply to Wharton. If just want to work in business after you graduate, apply to whichever school interests you more.

I was between CAS and Wharton before I applied. Then I realized that studying liberal arts and working in finance are not mutually exclusive, and I’m very happy in CAS.

^ Exactly.

Harvard, Yale, and Princeton students don’t have undergraduate business schools. Those kids study liberal arts and they are still fully capable of going to Wall Street if they want to–as are Penn’s own CAS kids (again, if they want to. I’d never want to work in finance myself)

I should’ve also added that I’m not just happy in CAS – I also have a very good investment banking internship lined up this summer. If you’re in CAS and want to do banking, you will get a job.
