Hey, I just got my letter today... I have a $25k CAS scholarship. Does anyone know if that's going to be renewable each year? I haven't emailed them yet to ask, just in case someone here knows.

From what I understand that's renewable so long as you're in the program; we have to meet academic and community service requirements.

Wow, that sounds like a sweet scholarship, congrats! What were your stats? I still have to send in all my financial aid info (yeah, kind of late, I know) and I'm trying to see how much I might be able to get.

SAT: 2290 (800m, 730cr, 760w)
I didn't take SAT II's cause I got lazy :)
GPA: 5.4317 W on 5.0 scale, 3.98something UW
4's on all AP's: calc bc, us his, eng lang, span lang, im taking 6 more this year
my EFC was like 11k

Yeah, it's renewable, as long as you file the FAFSA every year and you are still in need (like, if you won the lottery, you wouldn't get it anymore).

I don't think so, comgurl. Perhaps we have different awards both entitled "CAS Scholarship." I didn't submit my FAFSA or apply for financial assistance. I'll probably do that now, but the monies don't seem to be hinged on need.

It's the best kind of scholarship to have. You don't have to stay in the program - the scholarship isn't linked to that. FAFSA has no impact - it's strictly merit-based. It is given for all four years, so you get a total of $100,000, with $12,500 credited towards each semester's bill. I believe that you only need a 2.0 to keep your money. It's pretty crazy.

However, I strongly recommend you do stay in the program. If nothing else, you'll get two week-long trips overseas with a $300 fee for each. :D They pay for airfare on nice carriers, meals at good restaurants, museum fees, and 3-4 star hotel rooms. It's really great. :D Makes the tedious work worthwhile.

Congrats! (But double-check my facts.)

Well I got a 13k/year CAS scholarship. I guess this isn't the same as the 25k one?

It's most likely the same "thing", just not the same amount.

Yeah I got the 10,000 one and called the admissions office. They said that it is renewable if I maintain a 2.0 gpa and stay enrolled in 16 credits per semester.

today i got the letter that explained what i actually got... it's a presidential honors scholarship and it had all my questions answered :)

talked to financial aid office -- you must maintain fulltime status and decent grades, and reapply each year. Not bad!

I believe the merit scholarship does not need renewal in the sense that you have to file forms or make statements to some office. Mine automatically does it. Also, I don't have to file a FAFSA because it is NOT financial aid.

Is the CAS scholarship related to who gets into the CAS Presidential Honors Scholars Program? B/c I got a $10,000 CAS scholarship and I believe my stats place me in the running...I also got a Sunday at the Square invite. If not then can you try to apply during freshman year? If so when?
