Hi guys I need your help! I'm a transfer student this fall and will be living in Cascadilla Hall. What meal plan would you all suggest I go on? After searching this forum I saw that I lot of mentions that many people in Cascadilla don't go on meal plan b/c they're in Collegetown. I most likely would get a meal plan, preferably one with lots of BRB's. And how do Collegebucks work? Would you all suggest that? thanks much!

I’m living in Sheldon; and I was in a similar situation as you. Since you’ll be in a college town building, you have a few choices in meal plan choice. You could decide to go with a meal plan for one of the West Campus houses, in which you would be somewhat restricted to a specific house. You also have the option of choosing one of the typical meal plans that all freshmen choose, which would allow you to eat at any place on North and Okenshield’s on Central. You wouldn’t be able to eat at West every day, though. I couldn’t tell you anything about Collegebucks since I only eat sporadically in Collegetown (sit-in restaurants).

Thanks for answering! What meal plan do most upper classmen have?

The upperclassmen in major fraternities and sororities have their own cook, and typically don’t have campus meal plans. However, that’s just about 30% of undergrads. Most other folks carry a house plan, while some others just go with a non-house since they don’t live on West.

I don’t think that’s entirely true, Islander4. To my knowledge, any meal plan will allow you to eat on West, but only west campus residents will be allowed to eat in their respective houses between the hours of 6pm and 7pm on Wednesdays for house dinner (everyone else can come after 7:00). Why do you say that a person wouldn’t be allowed to eat on West everyday?

That’s what I thought. I never ate on West last year, but I did know there were restrictions.

The restriction is that it’s unlimited vs. limited. For those who are under west campus meal plan, they have unlimited meals at West, but not else where. The other one is just limited amount.

Ohh okay I understand know. I’ll probably go with the debit meal plan then since I’m not super close to any of the dining halls abut I’d be able to use my BRB’s for meals if I wanted to. Thanks for your help guys!
