CASE 2014 Hopefuls

Hello,

I've been looking at CWRU for quite some time now, and so I was thinking that anyone who is thinking about applying or has previously been accepted into the university to post their stats or comments/concerns as well. :)

I applied to Case and was accepted and (to my pleasant surprise) received a scholarship ($22.5k/yr). I’m a white, Jewish girl from New Jersey; I went to a small private high school that didn’t rank. My ACT composite was 34; SAT2s- Math 2- 770; Physics- 750; GPA ~ 3.62; ECs- 4 years of varsity swimming, dance, music (guitar and singing), writing.

I plan to major in Biomedical Engineering.

I ended up choosing Case because honestly, it was the best fit for me. It’s very strong in BME. It’s a good size- ~4000 undergrad students, 6000 graduate/medical/law students. Cleveland is awesome- it’s supposed to be a very “liveable” city (it’s also less expensive than, say, New York or Los Angeles), and there’s tons to do. Case is in Cleveland, but not downtown (just a few minutes away), and it’s definitely it’s own campus.

One thing that I really like about Case is that I’ll be able to study both BME and art. Other colleges I got in to, it was “possible” to do that… but not many people did, and I felt like it was kind of “looked down” upon- I felt like at Case, there’s a lot of people that are studying, say, BME, but also have a strong interest in art, music, theater. Next year, I’ll be living in an “arts” dorm, and a ton of the people living in it are engineering/science majors.

Case DOES have a reputation as being, well, a stereotypical “techie school”, with a not-so-great social life, and that’s somewhat true. I know that I’ll be doing a ton of studying next year, but for me, I didn’t WANT a big party school. I stayed in a sorority house when I visited. It seems like a lot of people at Case participate in Greek life (a lot of the houses are dry), but there are plenty of people that don’t.

If you are not going to get into an Ivy, but can get into RPI, WPI, Carnegie Mellon, etc. You will probably get into Case and get a nice BIG Scholarship, most of the students I talk to are getting aid (merit or need). 700-600 range on each test an a mid 3 GPA with a bunch of AP classes and a few years of ski team and scouts got me in easy.

Case however is a school where a sense of humor is a good thing, go on a tour or talk to a student and you might hear things that sound horrible, the thing is for all of our complaining we like case. probably 20% of the students are glued to their textbooks or computers and need to be dragged from their rooms, but the rest of us are just serious students who are willing to work in college (you need to put in 8-10 hours a day between classes and homework) to get a good job. Outside the midwest many dont know of case, but all of the employers do.

Let’s revive this thread.

My daughter is applying to the 2014 Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing class at CWRU. She is interviewing there on Oct 16th. Her stats may be slightly low by CWRU’s standards but hopefully the interview will help her.

GPA 3.8 uw
SAT 1330/1600 2000/2400
Good ECs and recs.

Good luck to everyone applying!

I will be applying here. =)

Hi Zapz! What are you going to study at CWRU? Would you mind posting your stats?

Will apply this year  Nice to meet you all

Btw, is there any chance to get BIG scholarships for an Engineering student like me?

I have read that CWRU is very generous with merit aid, however I’m sure it depends on your numbers. Why don’t you start a “Chance me” thread either on this forum or in the Chance forum? Couldn’t hurt to try.

I will also be applying to Case for 2014 :)

White female from CA (Bay Area)
Interested in engineering
I have a 3.76 GPA/2220 SAT I, 760 Math II, 780 Spanish, 740 Lit, taking physics in November…
I come from a very competitive private school that does show GPA by deciles on the school profile, so my rank isn’t great, which I’m thinking could hurt a lot for merit aid at Case…

Merit aid or not, I really like Case, so I will definitely be applying.

CaliforniaDancer: Bring a coat!

Hello everyone!
So I’m a current freshmen at Case and I decided to you help you guys out by posting my stats cuz I know what it feels like to be in your position…

GPA: 3.95 (UW); 4.71 (W)
SAT: 1500/2200 (780M/720CR/700W)
SAT II: Math II - 770; Chem - 740
Rank: 8/333 (UW); 1/333 (W)
~Out of state from MD
~Legacy student
~Trustee’s scholarship (I had actually received the President’s scholarship at first but then it was upgraded to Trustee’s after my mom had contacted Case asking for my app to be reviewed…)

I didn’t have too much extracurricular or leadership but I did have an internship in a lab.

If you guys have any questions feel free to ask and I’ll try to get back to you asap…
So far I can say that I have definitely enjoyed my time here at Case :]

december: What is your major? Are you male or female and how safe (in your opinion) is the campus? Which dorm are you in and how do you like of it?
Thanks

Heck, I’m a Case hopeful, applying EA (as my thread below indicates)

Basic Stats:

3.65-ish GPA (weighted and unweighted, there is only one weighted class at my school, so why distinguish?)

31 ACT

Ohioan, white trash to be specific

I’d like to think decent extracurrics, but I haven’t cured cancer yet.

College of Engineering and Business (dual major)

Definitely the toughest curriculum available at my school

4 AP tests taken, all passed. I was one of the first people in my school to EVER obtain a 5 on an AP test.

I’m applying for the Pre-Professional Scholars program (in Medicine). I just had my Hometown Interview on Sunday and I think it went fairly well. Unfortunately I can’t do Early Action since I’m doing PPSP, but I think I can find out my acceptance to Case in general in March.

In general, how long does case take to review applications?
Has anyone that’s already applied this year found out if they’ve been accepted yet?

“Has anyone that’s already applied this year found out if they’ve been accepted yet?”

Not that I’ve heard. The EA deadline isn’t until Nov 1st and the general wisdom is that acceptances will not be released until mid December (and likely around Christmas) at the earliest.
Good Luck!!!

I went through my son’s Case file and see the acceptance letter which included merit scholarship dated 12/13/2008. Hope that helps!

My son applied EA.
SAT - 1550/1600
SAT Subjects - Math II 800 / Phys 780 / Chem 780
ACT - 34
GPA 3.85/4 unweighted
AP - 5’s in Calc AB, Phys B, Chem, CS A

Thinking merit $ may be in the cards

December - why did you choose Case? With your stats it looks like you could have gotten into a (scrambling for non-offensive word better/more highly ranked/more well-known / more prestigious) school - what made Case your first choice? I’m honestly just trying to learn more about it because it seems like a great place. Thanks!

I applied EA for Aerospace Engineering

SAT: 2360 (770 CR, 800 M, 790 W)
SAT Subjects: Chem 760, Math II 800, U.S. History 760
GPA: 4.0 (UW), 4.55 (W)
Rank: 1/364 (UW), 6/364(W)
Should have 12 APs by the end of the year.

Hoping for a nice financial aid package!
