CASE 2014 Hopefuls

Waitinfor, I know you said your school doesn’t do quarter grades. Does that mean they don’t exist or is it that your guidance office does not, as a matter of course, send them? DS’s school doesn’t send them either but he did send photocopies of his first quarter report card to all the schools he applied to (he had a strong need to demonstrate a continuing upward trend). If you sense that your case is similar, can you send some sort of progress report? A statement from each teacher or a note from your guidance counselor or principal that vouches for your current grades?

@ aglages: I called today and they were happy to correct the error. I was admitted
I can’t wait to receive the welcome packet. Does anyone from past years know if scholarship information is sent in the welcome packet?

They do exist in a way. My school does a completely online grading system now where we can access an “online report card” that can be printed out however only 7 of my 6 grade receiving classes are shown, and while it is an official report card in a manner would I still need to attach some sort of form required by Case for it to be accepted or can I just send in the printed report like your son? I would hate for them to think I made a fake report card  though I would prefer to avoid getting a signed note from teachers/counselor since my grades have changed since the quarter (some raised, but some also dropped XD)

Also if my semester grades end up being lower (not by a lot, maybe just instead of an A in a class it ends up as a B) will that end up hurting me more in the end?

Congrats smart.cookie! Supposedly your acceptance letter includes whatever scholarship money is being offered. With your stats I’m sure it will be good (although whether as generous as Pitt…you’ll just have to wait and see). BTW - did you stop by CWRU when you visited Pitt a couple of weeks ago?

We actually drove through campus and casually toured Case (no formal tour).

From what I saw, I was impressed. Case is certainly a pretty college campus, and Cleveland is certainly is a lot larger than when I visited as a kid :)

^^^
Obviously my daughter agrees. It is difficult to express how enthusiastic the students and faculty were (particularly in the Nursing Program). How many more college acceptance letters are you waiting for…?

I still need to hear from Northeastern and Villanova. Right now my order is:

  1. UPitt
  2. Case
  3. Villanova
  4. Northeastern
But all could change depending on financial aid/scholarships/etc. I’m perfectly happy with waiting for now :)

^^^^
What happened to UM?
My daughter has Case first and Pitt 2nd. Still waiting on UPenn & UVa.

I decided that:

  1. I really want to go out of state for college
  2. UPitt, Case, and Northeastern outshone Michigan with respect to clinical locations (UMich has some pretty spread out placements)
and 3. Nursing jobs are nearly impossible to find in Michigan and I want to go to a state where nursing jobs are more plentiful as a new grad.

Congrats on acceptances.

I remember finding out about my financial aid in the official acceptance letter…although that was “just” a scholarship.

IIRC, I didn’t find out about loans until later.

Does anyone know how many people get each scholarship?

No idea. My S just got a Trustees and he is the 2nd in our family to do this, so it can’t be that difficult. ;)

/jk

Does anyone know what all the types and amounts of scholarships are?

Is $20,000 above or below average?

It is average for my above average daughter.

Most of my friends with scholarships have between 20-22k.

overall, how difficult are the classes in a biology major? how hard is it to maintain a good gpa at case western?

Hey if you guys got accepted what were your stats? If you don’t mind me asking. Also did you get any scholarships. I’m freaking out over here with my regular decision

My S had a 35 on the ACT, SATs I forget the exact numbers but he did have an 800 on the Math, 760 on English I think. NMSF, lots of APs, and straight As, pretty much. Not phenomenal ECs (hasn’t cured cancer yet) but good solid long-term science-related activities.

Trustees scholarship.
