Case 2014 PPSP Hopefuls!

How many of you are applying to the PPSP program? I'm applying for the one in Medicine, which I'm sure is super-competitive, but oh well. The deadline is December 1st, right? (I wish we could have done early action though :( )

I was really mad that we could not do Early Action. It would be nice if someone who got into the program could post their credentials, so we can get an idea. Of course it is very competitive, but I would like to know the chances of me getting an interview, if anyone has a rough idea.

ACT-33, SAT-2130
Class Rank-8/276
GPA-3.96
National Merit Semifinalist
National Honor Society
Football
Track
Chambers Choir
Numerous Physician Shadowings

I’m a senior and I’ve been on CC for a while (and obviously at Case for a while too), I only know (or have even heard about) one person who got the PPSP medical. So basically, you very likely will not get anyone who got it responding to this post. That being said, according the PPSP website “The average PPSP candidate for the Case School of Medicine will have ranked at least in the top 10 percent of his or her senior class and have an average SAT composite (math, critical reading and writing) score of 2200-2300 or an average ACT composite score of 31-34.”
I don’t want to be too downer, but just want to give youa heads up. So it would be fantastic if you got it, but it is VERY competitive. If you don’t get it, no worries, of the people I know going to med school (and i now know a good handful), most got it the “normal” way.

@casegirl: I have those numerical stats, but I am more worried along the line of EC’s because I pretty much got involved in what I liked doing and didn’t try to find “medical-related” ECs or do a lot of science research, etc. What do you think?

Yeah, I just wanted to make sure everyone had those stats. I don’t actually know enough about stats/ECs to know if you have a good chance or not (I mean the one person I did know who got it, I didn’t really discuss resumes and high school ECs didn’t really come up so I really have no standard). All I can say is my academic stats were stronger than yours, but my ECs were weaker and I didn’t get the medical PPSP. So basically I have inconclusive evidence.

I’m applying.

2320 SAT.
3.9/4.0 GPA.
2/143 Rank.

I’ve got the stats, but no medical related ECs. We’ll see how it goes :)

So, what do you guys think a good word count is for that 2nd essay? It’s a max of 1000, but honestly, that’s a bit ridiculous. I was thinking around 700. Other thoughts?

zakuropanda:
It’s an admission essay, worry about the content more than the word count. Don’t add verbosity to artificially increase word count. Write, then see what your word count it, but honestly, a couple thousand words (if that’s what it is) for the opportunity to not have to go through the pain of med school applications/interviews…it’s not too bad.

Hey you guys can somebody help me out?

I submitted my application kinda late on the deadline day (like, 11:40 ish) and so i’m a little nervous. on the common app, it says that all my materials have been submitted/downloaded. but i never got any “i got your application, here’s your id” etc. emails from case.

has anybody who applied to PPSP regular decision gotten such emails? by the way, i’m applying for medicine.

same. i didn’t get my id to check my status yet

I just got a letter in the mail with my briefCase id.

Has anyone received an admission decision to Case yet who applied to the PPSP?
I want to know already!!!

Son applied for PPSP. Today we checked application status and found “Congradulation, you are admitted …”. However, there is no information about scholarship and PPSP.

I was just admitted to Case. I also applied to PPSP, but I don’t know anything about my acceptance into that. I haven’t seen a date anywhere for acceptances, though the website said that interviews would be in late March - early April.

welcome package with scholarship on its way via mail, PPSP notification in Feb.

I just received my admission packet in the mail. I received the Trustee’s Scholarship and I am a finalist for PPSP in medicine. I can’t wait until my interview and I get to meet the other finalists.

Does anyone know how many finalists there are for the program??

Congrats to everyone!

i just got an interview notification as well as the provost scholarship today in the mail!

Just so everyone knows how the notification system works…

You find if you get admitted to Case undergrad online (i checked wednesday night. i don’t know when they came out but definitely w/in the last week or so b/c i think i looked during the week of the 18-22)

In the accepted student package they send to you by mail, you receive information regarding:

 1. scholarship status
 2. ppsp interview information

I don’t know if you are notified in the package if you didn’t receive an interview / scholarship

if anyone else wants to add / clarify i think people will appreciate it

So I got an acceptance package but it said nothing about an interview or being a finalist for the PPSP program… does that mean I’m out of the running for the program??

don’t know

Was you interview notification in the same envelope as the regular acceptance letter?
