CASE difficulty and scope (Chem advanced standing exam)

Does anyone have any experience or insight into the Chemistry Advanced Standing Examination? I’m planning on taking the exam to place out of CHEM 2080 (Gen Chem II) next semester. Are adiabatic, isothermal processes, pv work covered in 2080’s thermochemistry unit? Is it difficult? Is it similar somewhat to past prelims/finals from chem 2080? Thanks

I took the 2080 CASE this fall. It’s essentially the later parts of AP Chemistry but more in-depth, and any practice prelims/finals you can find will be good study tools. You don’t really have to know adiabatic/isothermal/etc, but know how to calculate work/heat and find things from a plot of P vs. V.

I would recommend just googling “Chem 2080 syllabus cornell” and you can find a detailed list of topics that are covered. You can also go to blackboard and ‘enroll’ for a past offering of 2080 and you will gain access to all the study materials, prelims, etc. from that year.

Ah, thank you!
