CASE, Foreign Language

I'm going to take the CASE test during orientation because of my AP score. However, I won't be able to fit in a language class this year, so I was wondering if my Spanish class placement as a result of how well I do on the exam applies for next fall as well [without me having to retake the CASE test].

Also, I'm an engineering student in CALS but I was wondering if a lot of engineering students in general wait until their sophomore year to start a new language.

Thanks!

i’m actually wondering the same thing about the placement test except for chinese instead. i’m probably gonna end up taking chinese in either 2nd semester or sophomore year, so idk if i should take the CASE exam right away

I was considering taking the placement test for Chinese, but haven’t really made up my mind yet. Honestly though, my Mandarin is pretty bad for someone who lived in China for two years. But I was looking at CHIN 1109: Intro for Chinese students and I think I’m probably more fluent than that so basically I’m not really sure.

You can start a language sequence in the middle of the year? I didn’t know that. Ahhh wait, I guess that’d make sense if you got placed into that class after taking CASE. I see now. :)

some departments only offer the first introductory sequence the first semester. i.e. french121 is only offered in the fall i think. while 122 is offered in the fall and spring. (i think)

just depends. and yeah i think your CASE score is still valid while you’re at cornell.
