Case is an excellent school, but I heard it's in a bad area, is it ture?

Case is an excellent school, but I heard it's in a bad area, is it ture? how bad the neighborhood is? any info about campus safety, dorm...? From the poster I received, buildings crowded over there, any green grass?

The only city college I have visited is Boston University, it has no campus, and only has a small lawn... I guess student number maybe more than grass, haha. neighborhood is not bad though.

Thanks

I don’t want to come off as sounding rude or anything, I’m just asking questions.

I really want to know campus safety, I’m not able to visit it at this time. Thanks

We visited twice. CWRU is an urban school in Cleveland. It does border on some very busy roads. That said, it does have its own “bubble” in University Circle. University Circle is home to the culture of Cleveland - symphony, art gallery, botanical gardens, etc. There is plenty of green grass, room to sunbathe and throw a frisbee. Area is dotted with interesting sculptures etc. It is not like BU which is totally integrated into Boston with no clear delineation between school and city. CWRU does have its own distinct area that is quite nice. Outside that area is the city of Cleveland. Hope this helps a little

As a current student at Case, I can tell you its very safe. Of course, its an urban school, but it really does have its own bubble. Cutting through campus is Euclid Avenue, one of the main streets in Cleveland that houses University Hospital, as well as the Cleveland Clinic, so like in any city, you need to be careful. Of course Cleveland has its bad areas-- there are areas not far from campus that I would consider very urban and less safe, but it is like that in any urban school… you just don’t go to the bad areas! Dorms and campus buildings have maximum security, which is great and makes you feel really safe! Overall, I feel safe here. It has a big and beautiful campus, not at all like BU (the main reason I never applied there).

Case has quite a bit of green space for an urban university. There are plenty of fields for groups to play IM and club sports and I’ve never heard of anyone have an issue of finding Case short on green space.

Case is part of University Circle, which in itself is sort of a microcosm. Here is what of part of University Circle and the extended Case community:

University Hospitals
Cleveland Clinic
Cleveland Institute of Art
Cleveland Institute of Music
Cleveland Orchestra
Little Italy
Cleveland Museum of Art
Cleveland Botanical Gardens

These are just some of the institutions that make up University Circle and all of them are within walking distance. There is almost always something going on within the UC neighborhood and you will always have something fun to do. There is a ton of cheap and really good food. Little Italy, for example, will provide you with some of the Italian food you will ever have. The wide variety of academic institutions that call UC home also allow for a very diverse group of students, making it very easy for you to find your niche.

As far as safety goes, you will be completely safe so long as you’re in the UC neighborhood. Case does an outstanding job of making sure its students are safe. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Thanks all
% male/female 57/43, good or bad?

As a current Case student, campus safety has a lot to do with making smart decisions. If you pay attention to your surroundings and stay within the confines of the campus you should be fine. If you are walking around late at night, it is always best to bring a friend.

im also a current case student and i feel very safe anywhere on campus and even just off of campus. i find myself traveling alone late at night (3AM) to get to my off-campus house from various points of the campus and i have never had a problem. granted I am a male student. the campus is very contained and there are very clear boundaries. there are four different guard posts that i know of spread across the campus with 24-hour watch. additionally, there are four different police forces constantly patrolling the area overnight.

also, in my year (2015) the male/female ration evened out to just about 50/50. the school is getting must more selective with admissions (dropped to 42% acceptance last year) and with that the student body is naturally evening out. this is a trend i anticipate will continue into the distant future.

As a student at Case I’ve never had a serious problem with either safety or the gender ratio. The campus itself is kept very safe by the large number of security officers who patrol campus. There are also the “blue towers” all around campus with emergency buttons. We always joke about being shot in east Cleveland, but I guess it’s all just part of being here. As for the gender ratio, I would say it’s pretty even now and I’ve never had a problem making friends with guys or girls on campus. I would suggest living on a co-ed floor if you want a diverse group of friends though.

Hope this helped! :)
