Case or Emory

<p>I got into Case with a sizable scholarship. Although my parents are willing to pay for either college, they do want me to really consider the scholarship.</p>

<p>The things I like about Case are that it has a great physics department. I'm really interested in Astrophysics.</p>

<p>It has a history department, but I really haven't learned much about it. I'm interested in history of Eastern civilizations. I haven't learned anything about it yet.</p>

<p>The things I like about Emory is that it's more aesthetically pleasing. I like the city much more.</p>

<p>I have not learned anything about the physics department at Emory though. I have no idea how critically acclaimed it is. I don't know if the teachers are interesting. I don't know if I will be able to participate in research.</p>

<p>And I haven't learned anything about the history department. I've asked questions here and on learnlink. But I haven't gotten a response. It's been over a week. It's frustrating.</p>

<p>Don't worry about the departments, its silly. Emory has a better reputation overall.</p>

<p>The graduate raking of the department isn't going to college for "the academics". Your major is only 10-12 classes, and at a place like Case a large majority of those will be taught by TAs, which won't be a ticket to a good grad school. Emory will give you better access to professors and grad schools regard it much higher.</p>

<p>Actually, in the case of undergrad Physics, Case has a good reputation. I haven't found anything about Emory.</p>

<p>I just want to know that I won't be disappointed if I go to Emory.</p>

<p>But the whole History thing sounds great.</p>

<p>Well, I'm going to Case.</p>

<p>Reasons:</p>

<ol>
<li>The physics department at Case far outstrips Emory's (I had my gc look into it).</li>
<li>I got a 14,400 dollar scholarship at Case.</li>
<li> All the guys at Learnlink seemed keen on talking about was cars and girls. Not my style.</li>
<li> I e-mailed several professors who'd given their e-mail address to be asked questions. None of my e-mails were answered.</li>
</ol>

<p>Anyways, I still feel kind of bad not going to Emory. It has such a beautiful campus (and other aesthetic stuff). Oh and it has girls which is less than what I can say to Case.</p>

<p>BabuMohan, I second your 4th reason. Do they even read e-mails from prospective students?</p>

<p>That's odd that some professors aren't e-mailing you back. If anything, I'd give it time and maybe a second e-mail after Emory finishes graduation. This is an extremely busy time of year for everyone: undergrads, graduate students, and professors. Professors are preparing for finals as well, trying to finish grading everything, were advising their advisees up until last week, and many have students who they're supervising in their honors theses. I know this probably isn't what you wanted to hear, especially since you have to decide soon, but I think that professors' top priorities right now are their current students.</p>

<p>newabc, I sent an e-mail to one of the professors from Emory about 3 weeks ago. I didn't bother to send her another e-mail since she could have at least sent me an e-mail saying that she is busy and will e-mail me later.</p>

<p>newabc, it only made decision a little easier. I still like Emory. It's just not the college for me.</p>
