Case vs WashU for BME

My current impression is that in overall academic quality and in quality of college life, WashU (Washington University in St. Louis) is better than Case. In the specific area of Biomedical Engineering they could be considered comparable or although Case has had the edge in the past. In other areas of engineering, my impression is that Case is better. Does anyone have any other insights into how the schools compare?

One reason you should consider Case over WashU is that Case has far more research opportunities not just for upperclassmen. Students at Case start doing research in their first week on campus, seriously. I didnt believe it until I came here. And for BME, you have 4 world renown hospitals right on campus(they are all between the north and south side of campus) where you can do important work that will make the grad schools smile.

I have heard that for BME, Case is ranked a little higher than Wash U. You might want to check these ratings but a lot of people have said that. And the research thing is correct…there are a lot of opportunities at Case.

Son is interested in BME as a career, not premed. Very interested in Marquette, with their coop/internship program.

Is there a similar program at Case for BME? Is BME more a premed emphasis than an industry/academia curriculum?

Son is interested also in getting a MS, preferrable a five year program, or a six year with coop. Is there a BS/MS program offered in BME at Case?

Thanks for any input!

My son too needs to decide between Case and Wash U by this month end (Apr,2009). Case is giving excellent scholarship where as Wash U gives much less. My recommendation to him is to go for CASE, if he likes to do BME, otherwise Wash U.
