[] Weaknesses: reading score SAT, possibly extra curriculars as well
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: i was a strong/great applicant
[/li]

[/ul]General Comments: currently, i am stuck between attending Case or Pitt. Case wins because its BME program is slightly better than Pitt’s (Case Western’s 8th ish and Pitt is 14th ish) and Pitt wins because its social life/scene is much more lively and evident. I mean seriously OAKLAND ZOO!!

Case Western is a great school though! It’s a really tough choice for me

Objective:

* SAT I (breakdown): 2300 ( 750CR, 800M, 750W)

  • ACT (breakdown): N/A

Subjective:

* Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Figure skating, City’s Philharmonic
Youth Orchestra, Honors Seminars of City, School Newspaper (junior editor),
physician shadowing, fMRI research experience

  • Job/Work Experience: Peer mentor & camp counselor
  • Volunteer/Community service: Hospital volunteer, nursing home volunteer, figure
skating club volunteer, ice skating instructor assistant
  • Essays: good. Common app one was about figure skating
  • Teacher Recommendation: Hopefully good, but I don’t know b/c I waived my right.
  • Counselor Rec: excellent
  • Additional Rec: N/A
  • Interview: nope

Other

* Applied for Financial Aid?: No, don’t even qualify

  • Intended Major: Biochemistry
  • State (if domestic applicant): Ohio
  • Country (if international applicant): N/A
  • School Type: Private
  • Ethnicity: Asian (Chinese)
  • Gender: Female
  • Income Bracket: $350,000+

Reflection

* Strengths: course load (took 3 science classes this year, extracurriculars, GPA,
test scores, demonstrated interest

  • Weaknesses: AP test scores, leadership, not NMSF
  • Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Simply a strong applicant,
although I was not flawless. My school also has a close affiliation with Case (I think
it’s a feeder), so I guess that played a part in landing me a $20,000 per year
    scholarship.

General Comments: I will be attending Case next next year, even though I got rejected by the PPSP in medicine and every BS/MD program I applied to. I am extremely satisfied with my decision because I believe that Case is the best fit for me and a great school for premeds due to its proximity to Cleveland Clinic. I won’t have any regrets in the future b/c I won’t be in debt and will be able to save $ for med school. What I like most about Case is the balance between education quality and merit aid given out. Many elite schools don’t give out merit aid and many public schools that give out merit aid may not be as good academically. I also like how the academics there are less cutthroat compared to top elite schools. I also chose Case because I value diversity, and when I visited, there were Asian guys everywhere I looked. So I don’t think I will have problems making friends.
