@snoozn That sounds definitely like she is showing interest!
If you google " Common Data Set" and
then look in Section C7: Relative importance of each of the following academic and nonacademic factors in first-time, firstyear,degree-seeking (freshman) admission decisions.
Then look at “Level of applicant’s interest”
Is it Very Important, Important, Considered, or Not Considered?
@therealdeal23, have you requested an interview and not heard back? If so, I’d probably wait a couple of weeks and then send a polite inquiry about when the interview might happen. Some people suggest calling admissions with questions often enough to remind them you exist, but this seems pretty forced to me. I’ve also heard that many colleges keep track of emails they send you to see if you open it and click on any links. My D shares her college-specific email account with me and yes I open all the emails and click on at least one link from each one. :))
With CWRU there are alumni interviewers. There may be none in your area. You may have been assigned to someone…but they just show up on the portal for teh interviewer…eventually they get an email if they don’t check. Also, it is getting near holiday times so it is tough to schedule. Wait a couple of weeks and then inquire again.
My daughter is a freshman at CWRU this year. Our family had not really heard much about the school until about two years ago, and after extensive research and visits, my daughter knew it was the place for her. Since arriving this past August, she has had an exceptional experience.
Also, consider bringing along a copy of your resume and giving it to the alumni interviewer. My daughter did this, and thought it made the interview experience better.
I wish you great luck on the interview and application. CWRU is a incredible place.
I would search here in CC on “interview questions” to get an idea of some common ones.
Make sure you can answer “What drew you to our University?”
The other thing to think about is “What is a college looking for?”
They are looking for intellectual curiosity, community involvement, leadership, if you have overcome obsticles, interest in their college. So weave those into your answers.
So don’t just say you were French Club Vice President, but that you planned an advertised an event that 100 students attended…you had to interact with the administration at your school, etc etc.
I do interviews and I talked to someone who didn’t have a ton of Extracurriculars…but it turned out that his parents were divorcing and he spent a great deal of time taking care of his brother…so we talked about the leadership aspects of that, etc.
Also, at the end of the interview, the intervier often asks if you have any questions for them. You want to have a couple of questions ready.
Questions you can ask:
(if the interviewer attended the college) What made you choose the college?
What is your favorite and least favorite aspects of the college?
What do you wish you did at college that you didn’t get to?
What were some of your favorite traditions at the college?
Do bring your resume (in whatever format you have)…it is useful to have to cover all bases. They may or may not want to use it.
My Case interview was super-weird… my alumni was a very nerdy, socially awkward computer engineer. He brought a printout of the evaluation he needed to fill out about me after the interview and, upon discovering that I brought a resume, proceeded to silently copy down the information from my resume onto the printout. I spoke a total of probably 5 sentences and was there for about 15 minutes.
It was a weird situation, but admissions must have interpreted it as a positive one, since I got in and am currently a freshman!
Sorry, @SoCcErTrAcK2016 ! They should be getting more info than that an fill out the sheet at another time! Please send email about that to your admissions counselor. Tell them that you were happy to have an interview, but want to let you know how it went in case that is not the desired method.
@therealdeal23 It won’t hurt to bring it. …even just for yourself if they ask you about ECs. They may not ask those questions but I would bring it as a back up.
Heard nothing from them about an interview after completing the for and sent a letter a few weeks ago and heard nothing back. Should I be concerned there may not be an interview?
My D also applied EA. Admissions staff just told me that all EA applicants will get acceptance and financial/merit aid decisions by 12/17. Good luck to all applicants!
The 17th is a Saturday I think that would be weird but maybe that’s normal for CWRU? It took my daughter like 6 weeks to get an interview and then the interviewer only asked her a few questions and spent the rest of the time giving her a hard sell on how great CWRU is. Hopefully that meant they decided early on she was great and worth recruiting. At least that’s our hope!
