Case Western Business v Rutgers Business - Honors College

I was accepted to both Case Western Business and Rutgers Business Honors College. I would pay almost exactly the same amount (surprising, since I’m in-state for Rutgers). Which one do you guys think is better - in terms of ranking, opportunities, and credibility with getting internships and jobs…

@Blazchkowski123 You might look at each school’s “First Destination” survey/results/outcomes or whatever they call it. It will provide an indication as to where grads are employed and how much they make starting out. Also shows % hired w/in a few months of graduation and % still looking. Some schools will even break out hiring by geographic region. Many schools will also show internship stats.

These are under-appreciated resources. My daughter pored over them. She thought she wanted to work for XYZ (major tech company) and picked a school that placed kids at it. She interned there, liked it, and received a job offer.

Your mileage may vary, of course…

Also I would think about where you want to end up after college. If NYC, for example, Rutgers might be easier.

What “perks” do you get with Rutgers honors college?

@Blazchkowski123 Accounting may be stronger at Case Western, and those students can do five year masters of accounting degrees with full funding for the fifth year at Case. Then go directly into a big ten accounting firm.
I think you have to go to Rutgers Newark to study accounting, and I assume you want to be in New Brunswick NJ campus.

Also do you like a big State school with football and taking busses to get around or a smaller school?

I like a smaller school and sports don’t matter to me. I don’t know if Case can help me land a job in NYC like Rutgers

FYI My Husband majored in Accounting at CWRU and got a job at Ernst & Whinney (now EY) in NYC right out of Case.
Accounting firms will know the value of a CWRU Accounting degree.

It may be helpful to get a masters in accounting to get into the top accounting firms today. I am not sure
you want to study accounting but there is a five year masters program at Case-

So Case students finish the four years, and then can get funded for the fifth year. Then you can pass CPA exams
which require a masters degree in most states, including NY State.

If you are focused on marketing, look at the destination survey above for ideas.

I am interested in going into Finance. @bopper and @Coloradomama thanks for the insight! I’m going to try to see the destination survey.

Case’s survey shows a very small number of accounting and marketing majors, and shows some students getting to jobs in New York City. Its a voluntary survey from 2016, but maybe there is a more recent one. @bopper can you find one for 2017? Thanks.

This is where i find them…2016 is the latest

I think you would have more opportunities at Rutgers because of its proximity to NYC. I forget which site I saw this on but one of the most popular degrees obtained by Wall Street workers is a Rutgers Business Degree (around 2-3 percent I think). Some of the other schools on the list were Columbia, Cornell, Princeton, NYU, MIT, Penn, and a couple of tech schools (forget which ones).
