Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:EC
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected:Got in OSU AND UGA SO FAR

General Comments: SURPRISED I GOT IN

[/noparse]

My S was accepted with 22k has 33 ACT, 3.5 UW/4.3 W GPA, 9 AP classes, good ECs with leadership. Very glad as this is one his top choices.

I had read and it appears to be true that high stats tend to get deferred because Case is often used as their safety school and fewer of the high stats end up actually enrolling. They also seem to look for a strong passion outside of academics. And I think the rec letter (an excellent one by his english teacher who knows him well) helped as well.

@smallflowerpuppy‌ Ping Pong??? Whoa

@singermom4‌ I know that a lot of good, but not tier-one, schools do that, and along that line of thinking I’m surprised I got in because I had high-ish scores and Case Western is a back up for me lol.

^ I had a very low GPA (3.4 UW) but got in because I demonstrated a lot of passion outside of the classroom and interest in the school. I think Case is trying to accept people that are going to enroll (which there is a VERY good chance that I will!)

Wow congrats!!! @minohi‌

If it makes a difference, I applied as an Economics major and not engineering. This probably played a huge part in my acceptance and puts it into context.

Accepted - Computer Science (College of Engineering)
SAT: 2080
SAT Math II: 800
SAT Physics: 720
TOEFL: 106
Good EC
Nice Application Essay
Decent leadership role

International Student (China)

@minohi Case has a “single door” policy…you apply to the university and, once accepted, may choose any major from music to economics to psychology to engineering. So, no this had nothing to do with your acceptance.

Dd accepted - bioEng - rank top 5%, gpa 3.9/4.6, large NJ public, ACT 33 (best 35 m/35 english), 8 APs (4s, 5s) attended open house, interviewed w/alumni. 25k university merit scholarship.

@Sdgal2‌ I thought so, but I wasn’t sure. I was literally the only person out of 20 people who applied EA from my school to get accepted this year and my GPA was arguably one of the lowest of the bunch, but since pretty much all of them applied for engineering or computer science I figured that it might have been my major choice. I’m so blessed and excited and honored. Thanks for your response.

Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Private College Prep
Ethnicity: Chinese
Gender: Male
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Art Conservatory Diploma, Half deaf on both ears

Reflection

Strengths:
Very well rounded, I believe I excelled in academic given my coursework, balanced with the sports I played as well as dealing with the handicap of my hearing problem. I had a strong essay that I had many of my friends to proof-read for me and I am in the art conservatory program.
Weaknesses:
I never got any real award, never accomplished anything spectacular, didn’t show much interest like interview or campus visit as this was meant to be my backup school.
Why you think you were deferred:
I’ve read that many high-end stats get deferred because CWRU already know that they’re just using them as back-up schools, I really hope this is the case as my dream school is Carnegie Mellon ECE/CIT, but this deferral really implanted a huge doubt into my mind.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted to Michigan State, other decisions don’t come out yet.

I did a visit last year which may have helped. I didn’t interview, I didn’t even know that was a thing. I would have bombed it anyway.

The P.S. messages were adorable, did everyone get those?

Agree about the p.s. message. Super impressed that they took the time to personalize the acceptance.

I actually just went back and looked at my P.S. message! I’m really glad that they added those to the acceptances! It makes me feel loved. :)

Reflection

Strengths: Really showed interest in the school because I called/emailed them a lot, plus my interest in Case was heightened by my excitement in the interview
Weaknesses: i think there was a typo in my essay lol
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: stats are decent, showed initiative
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: so far, Santa Clara University, but i hope to hear back from about 10 more colleges by the end of March

General Comments: To those of you who were deferred: don’t lose hope! your chances of getting in in RD is really high now!! To those of you who were accepted: Congrats!! Also, anywhere else you would prefer over case?

Just goes to show how far a little personalization can go on an acceptance letter. They clearly want well-rounded students, and their notes identify what made you stand out as an applicant and drove your acceptance. Once again, congratulations to all of my fellow 2019 Spartans!

@katevade how do we request the tshirt?? I didn’t see a link anywhere on the letter…
