I was deferred. Does that mean There is no possibility to get scholarship money?

You will definitely be eligible for scholarships for regular decision.

Did you apply jmek15?

But if they deferred me wouldn’t that mean that there are more people that are more eligible than me to receive those scholarships? Have deferred students got scholarships before?

They set away scholarship money to give out to kids who are admitted regular decision, and you’ll be eligible to get some of that money. Your deferral just put you into regular decision.

Quiz Bowl for three years
A whole lot of band
A lot of community service at the local hospital and nursing homes, used skills on piano to play there as well.
Essays (rating 1-10, details): Really confident they were great, wrote about failure in piano performance and how I improved, learned from the failure and applied new skills to my studies. Thought my structuring was great and had a bit of humor as well (8)
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details): My BC Calc teacher who’s also the Quiz bowl coach and had known me for three and a half years and my French teacher. I get along famously with both of them and the recs are most likely very good (8-10) but the school doesn’t let us read them.

State (if domestic applicant): Ohio
School Type: public
Ethnicity: Asian (Vietnamese)
Gender: Male

Strengths: Very involved, A whole lot of Post-secondary, Skipped a year in both my math (took AP Calc BC Junior year) and sciences.
Weaknesses: Didn’t do interview, ACT could be better, SAT II Math I could have been stellar (or better yet a good Math II score), class rank (though I’m in the top 6% my school’s all about those top 25 8-| )
Hooks: Asian? (maybe considering I’m Vietnamese), First Generation?, Father passing away? I’m not sure if these made a difference at all but they were there.

General Comments:
To my fellow deferred applicants: Have you received info on how to update your app yet? The deferral letter said it would come in January and I’m concerned because the regular decision deadline of the 15th is getting really close. Because we are updating rather than applying all over again, I don’t believe that they will hold us to that deadline but I’d still like to get my new information in as soon as possible.

Job/Work Experience: Counselor-in-training at my acting camp
Volunteer/Community Service: ~300 hrs in HS of data entry/admin work for a nonprofit
Summer Experience: 6 years (20 weeks) of acting camp.
Essays (rating 1-10, details): Common App essay was, um, unique. I always have to explain myself when I mention the topic. Said a lot about me as a student, though, and I’m quite proud.
Teacher Recommendation #1: Math teacher/advisor. I was one of her best students, and she’s always said in comments that math seems effortless to me. I don’t have her this year, but she’s made effort to chat with me and stay invested in my academic success.
Teacher Recommendation #2: History teacher. I’ve gone above and beyond in her classes more than any other - extra reading, research, all that. I’ve guest taught a couple classes for her. She’s very enthusiastic and seems to be quite fond of me.
Counselor Rec: He had me as a student back in 7th grade and said he could still write an excellent teacher recommendation because I left such a positive impression. He’s had to deal with my frequent requests for more challenging schedules and knows how driven I am. We’ve talked a lot and I think he understands me as a person very well.
Interview: Requested an alumni interview, but never heard back. Emailed about it and worked out an on-campus interview. It was great (a rare thing for me - my other interviews have been pretty bad). I think my interviewer was puzzled by just how much I love academics, but I left a good impression and we had a really nice talk.

Reflection
Strengths: Very rigorous courseload, great grades - showed improvement. ACT. Recommendations. Lots of demonstrated interest. I visited campus three times (I have a sibling at a nearby college, so it was convenient) and expressed a lot of excitement about Case in my interview.
Weaknesses: ECs.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Strong numbers and lots of interest.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted at Chapman, deferred at MIT.
General Comments: While I do admit to using Case as a safety school, I also really like the school and let that show. I’m happy to have gotten in, and I will most likely attend.
^ Also, sorry, forgot to mention: 30k scholarship, which definitely provides some motivation for going there.
@xzixzi
Did you get the University Scholarship? I got it and I only got 25k, so I’m wondering if they give out different scholarships.
@redwall1521 Yup.
Has anyone received their tshirt from case western?
My son has not received his t-shirt yet. I think they are overdue!
If I recall from a couple years ago, they took quite some time to arrive…
ED2 rejected!
I’m sad.
@pattychoco @veggylover @Sdgal2
I just received my t shirt in the mail today.
