My son has been accepted to both schools on very similar merit scholarships. He is planning to study neuroscience but things could change. We have visited CWRU but not Tulane yet.
Are the dorms in Tulane modern and comfortable? I can see them on the web but not quite sure.
How are the libraries? I saw a post saying that they are small and very hard to find a seat around crunch time.
I have seen you tube videos of both places. I am planning to visit Tulane soon.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
I have looked into both schools, but haven’t visited. It seems they have very different vibes. Tulane will have more partying and distractions, but the students seem very happy there. Case Western will have less of that, but there is still Greek life and opportunites to socialize, just not as intense. My guess is that many of the Tulane kids are more social creatures. You will find very smart kids at both schools though. The dorms look fine to me from what I have seen on line. You can check out niche for reviews on the dorms and food. Not sure about the libraries.
Both are ranked similarly, with Case placed marginally above. Case has a more academically oriented reputation than Tulane, which is known for parties as well as smart students.
I do know that Case has great med/grad school placement. I haven’t looked into Tulane as much.
In case it matters for four years…gray, dreary and cold vs. green, lush and warm.
And regarding Tulane’s dorms…the Honors dorms are modern and comfortable, suite style (two rooms sharing a bathroom rather a shared bathroom for an entire floor). You didn’t indicate that he was admitted into the Honors program, but given the merit award I figured it was a possibility. The non-Honors dorms are rather run of the mill but have a lot of outdoor living space incorporated to take advantage of the climate.
Wow – so my son also is accepted to Case & Tulane (he is interested more in business and liberal arts). We are in NY but have connections to New Orleans and honestly love it on many levels (people, food, music, culture/history, love of life & family, environment etc.). I suggest you visit Tulane and tour dorms, libraries and other areas – and talk to faculty and students. If students want to party they can do that at both schools and they both have Greek life – but Tulane advocates for a balanced life and requires service time and encourages trying a number of things. We were there last week & I was struck by the emphasis on profs getting to know students (we had brunch with a number of them) and the concept of students connecting & learning beyond the university boundaries. Regarding medicine - well Tulane was founded on that need. But I don’t mean to persuade you - please go check them both out. Best of luck!
