My son has accepted his offer from case western reserve university and is now officially a part of case western class of 2020. He would be doing his biomedical engineering and he is a international student. I thought this thread would be helpful for people who want to connect with their peers.
Congrats!,did your son got any $cholarship?
No as an international student it is hard to get scholarship
Sorry to hear that,I am of Indian Origin my son got some $$ for the class of 2020,will attend admitted students
meet in Spring break.
Congratulations
My son also has accepted his EA admission. He is not sure if he will major in biomedical engineering or materials science engineering, or something else altogether! He is interested in several areas and not sure where he wants to concentrate his focus. We visited this summer and the entire family really liked the school. We visited nine schools on our trip, including several East Coast unis, like Harvard and MIT, but he (and all of us) felt more at home at this Midwestern university.
CWRU has been high on his list from the beginning, but the scholarship offer was a pleasant surprise. The merit-based aid wasn’t the tipping factor for him, but it was nice because he will not qualify for need-based financial aid.
He is excited about living somewhere with four seasons. We live in south Texas, so it is 10 months of summer, one month of hotter than hell, and a few weeks of sloppy, wet cold. I have no clue what footwear one wears in the snow, but I know we’ll get it figured out.
@bigred93 He can do biomedical with a concentration in materials science. The first couple of years of both shoudl be about the same so no need to worry.
bigred93, Congratulations! We are from Chicago and will be visiting CWRU in Spring break.
My son will be doing Pre-Med track.
Has anyone else received an e mail from CWRU inviting them to attend accepted students day/overnight for free ( they will pay round trip air fare)? Did not expect this from them at all. We also visited with D last spring and it was one of my favorite campus experiences. Lots of diversity, bustling campus and so many surrounding cultural things to do.
The plane ticket would of course only be for my D. BTW, we are in Central Texas area and she is looking forward to experiencing 4 seasons too. I am originally from south Texas and loved the above description of the seasons there. So true.
That is awesome! Hope we get that offer. We are in ID and I have been checking flights, $750 and up per person. Ww really want to visit.
My son just got a “likely letter” from Case today. He applied regular decision. Anyone have any experience/knowledge of these at Case? Is it as solid as it is at other places offering him those? My understanding is that unless he flunks out of school in the next month or is arrested, he is going to be admitted. He is a strong student but also an athlete who is being heavily recruited. He is picking his school based on academics, not sports, but we needed that letter to comfortably turn away other schools offering admission and $ for him as an athlete. So, now he will go visit. Luckily, he likes the cold so it won’t be an issue visiting this time of year.
My Son is also going to Join Case. He will be moving from India to US in Fall of 2016. He plans to major in Engineering Physics
My son has also accepted his ea admissions offer! He’ll be studying mechanical engineering (or at least that’s today’s plan!) Anybody else from the New Jersey / Philly area?
Congratulations to all who got accepted to CWRU. To get an idea how much merit aid CWRU provided (when not applied to FSFSA). Did any one get full tuition or what amount (20k or 25k or 30k)? Thanks.
@GoldenRock You should read through the two threads pinned to the top of the CWRU page (Case Western Reserve University Class of 2020 Applicant Thread and CaseWestern Reserve University Class of 2020 EA Results Thread!). Lots of accepted students mentioned how much merit aid they received along with their offer.
Accepted to CWRU political science major.
I know CWRU is outstanding for its engineering and medical/nursing program.
I wonder how good its college or arts and science (political science) program is.
Any thoughts or advice?
Remember that the Western Reserve part of CWRU was a Liberal Arts College.
@bopper Can you give me some more detail? I actually don’t know much information about CWRU
@yoongeollee Case Western Reserve, was formed as a federation between two separate schools. Case Institute of Technology and Western Reserve. Western Reserve was, up until the early 1900s (or maybe even a little latter), the only school that was close to the Ivy’s in terms of prestige and quality of education. The North East portion of Ohio, where CWRU is located, was a part of Connecticut. Western Reserve was established by Yalies and the early presidents and many profs were from there. New England influence and New England values (emphasis on bettering oneself through education, hard work, and frugality) were brought here and many aspects are ingrained.
CWRU has strong programs across many fields, outside of engineering.
