I recently got accepted to both and my financial aid was about the same (30k/yr). I was wondering if anyone that has attended the school can tell me about their overall experience/if they would go again, if given the opportunity? Also what the campus vibe and social scenes are like?
MHC is a liberal arts school, whereas Case is largely dominated by STEM-focused majors. You can study liberal arts and STEM at either school, but this difference definitely has an effect on what type of students the two schools attract.
What is your intended major?
Don’t look at financial aid, look at net costs:
(tuition, fees, room, board) - (scholarships, grants) =
The environment is very different. Have you been able to visit?
I agree – look at net cost of both schools and be sure the two options are equally affordable. If one is a much better deal then that should factor into your final decision.
Other than that they are two very different schools – a all women’s LAC v a co-ed mid-size university. Both schools can get you where you want to go. If they are equally affordable it is really is a matter of where you want to spend the next four years. I’d suggest you visit or re-visit the schools if possible (maybe during accepted student day).
Both are excellent schools. Consider distance from home. If one involves flying, the costs can add up going back and forth for breaks. Our son got a nice scholarship, but travel eats into it a bit. And now that we have moved, he has no direct flights, so it takes almost an entire day to get home and back.
I assume your son goes to CWRU? How does he like it?
Comparing Mt. Holyoke vs. CWRU is like comparing oranges vs. apples, both fruits… Mt. Holyoke, I find is insulated, homogenous (all girls) and limiting. CWRU is in a city, Mt. Holyoke, rural. CWRU attracts students from all over USA and internationally. It has renown Cleveland Clinic and many other hospitals on campus, great for rotations, etc. Culturally, there’s Severance Hall, several museums on campus. Its a much more happening place than Mt. Holyoke, which has that quiet Northeast Liberal Arts vibe. And if job recruiting is important to you, like ROE, CWRU has alot more better stats as far as kids getting jobs after graduation.
^ Yep. Very different settings, vibes, and academic strengths (and available majors, classes, etc…).
