Hey everyone!
I just accepted into two of my backup schools, Case Western and OSU. I was wondering which college is “better” (I know, vague) in regards to student life, academics, and reputation. If I go the Case Western, I might pursue a STEM field; if I go to OSU, I would pursue a major in finance (been accepted in Fisher). Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thank you!
@Pase66 - aside from the fact that both schools are in Ohio and located near cities, they are very different in many, many aspects. You need to weigh what kind of college experience you want. Case - fairly small campus, medium undergraduate population, urban area, D3 sports, very likely small class sizes for many of your undergraduate classes. OSU - huge campus, very large undergraduate population, urban, D1 sports that are very well known, very likely large classes in the beginning.
So, you need to weigh what kind of experience you want and what you want to study. Since you mention 2 different paths of study, one advantage to Case is that most all freshmen are admitted to Case, not to a program. So, if you change your mind on direction during your freshman year, it’s not an issue. If you live for football Saturdays, there is no comparison between OSU football and Case! If you like the idea of a smaller campus and smaller classes, Case may be the better option.
I’d suggest you list the various aspects of college life and then rate their importance to you. Then, rate each school on those aspects. Case and OSU both have excellent reputations and you will receive a great education at either university (I’m a firm believer you get out of it what you put into it) so it really comes down to what is a good fit for you. Good luck!
In terms of pursuing a STEM field or business, I think Ohio State would be the better option. It’s probably much cheaper than Case for you? Also, a larger place is better in that you are getting a better microcosm of the world.
