Case Western vs. Penn State (engineering)

ok. another comparision of colleges.

when it comes to engineering which would be the better one?

my mothers freind's daughter goes here, my mom says this school is way better than PSU. i am not sure of it.

What do you guys think? Case has a good reputation but still.

Penn State is better.

are you sure?

are you a penn stater?

I mean CASE has a higher reputation, right?

I don't go to Penn State.

I'm a senior in high school just like you.

Case is ranked 42nd in the nation.

However, I think they're much better than Penn State when it comes to biomedical engineering.

What are you taking about?

first you say PSU is better than its Case.

Which one are you saying is better?

well if your taking about Biomed then PSU just got this major in 02. Its a new major there. i heard they are seeking accredition in 08. So, its gonna take a couple of years for PSU to get a reputation in Biomed.

Case has a very good rep when it comes to Biomed.

but overall for just engineering, which is better? (thats my question)

For whatever it's worth:
Penn State is ranked #14 for engineering by US News. Case is ranked #39 for engineering.

They're both good schools. They have different atmospheres (and cost!).

PSU has an excellent engineering program. IMO- If you're in state - it would be hard to justify spending the extra money for Case. Plus, if you're good enough to get into Case- you might get into the honors college at PSU which gives you smaller classes, great opportunties for research, and addtional scholarship money. If you're out of state, the comparison gets tougher since PSU tuition is pretty high (23K for OOS). Also, you want to look at "fit". These schools are very different. PSU has a party reputation - however there are certainly students who work hard there - especially in the honors college. Also, do you like football? School spirit? Big or small? A college town atmosphere or urban environment? Social fit is very important.

so i guess the answer is basically, they r both good but depends on ppl's situation.

hey don't you guys agree that TEMPLE U. in philly is one of the worst schools for engineering?
there r just some ppl who just don't believe me.

Temple is only accredited in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. It does not appear on the US News ranking at all.

yea basically it sucks

yea, it might ;)

I'd go for Case.

Biomedical engineering and engineering are different.

I said that Penn State is better than Case in engineering.

So if you plan to major in engineering, my suggestion is to go for Penn State.

You can also try Purdue.

biomed engineering is a field inside engineering

Every one keeps telling there's something special about Penn State, it has a "good reputation" and other things.

What makes Penn State have a good reputation and what's so special about that school? (especially in engineering)

Something like 1 in 20 of all engineers are PSU grads. Good school.

I attended Penn State and a bunch of my friends from high school attended Case because of the merit money the offered. One in particular, majored in chemical engineering at Case and got a very good job with GE. The problem is, he would have gotten the same job after graduating from Penn State (he was a very smart, capable guy), and he would've had a lot more fun (which he acknowledged when he visited me at Penn State) for basically the same amount of money.

Interestin....what Did You Major In? And How Long Did It Take You To Get A Job After Graduation

My son is at the Schreyer Honors College at PSU and absolutely loves it. He really feels that he is getting the "small school in a big school" experience. He has plenty of contact with profs, got a job in a lab freshman year and has other great opportunities for research.
Although he didn't expect to care about the "Big 10" experience, he is also enjoying the football games and having a great time with the range of social options.
It's definitely worth a look.

i guess that means there is a difference if one goes to the satalite campuses for the first 2 years and then the main campus.
