Case

I've heard that if you get a 1500 m+v on the SAT and are top 10% you get like 24k to Case. First of all, is this true? And second of all, is the 24k per year or total?

I don't know the exact amount, as my son applied four years ago. I don't think it was that high then. It is a renewable scholarship, so whatever the amount, it would be the same for each year.

The only catch: they only have so many of those scholarships to offer. So, even though my son fit the category, he was offered a lesser amount, because those were already all given out. I don't know if it depends on when you apply, or if it goes to the top scorers or whatever. But we discovered that it is not something you can depend on getting. This part was not made clear on their website or application materials. However, the website should give info on the scholarship amounts.

My son did not end up going there because he got a better offer at his first choice school, and Case Western was his second choice.

My S is current freshman at Case. He received $24K Trustee Scholarship. It is highest Merit award at Case. There are 2 smaller merit scholarships. Do not know how many of each offered, but my S had SAT of 1570 and graduated top of his class, so easily qualified for top merit award. It is renewable annually as are other merit awards. Website indicates a "few" of these scholarships awarded. I tried to get a number out of them last year, but was not successful.

I would think you have a better shot at the Trustee Scholarship if you apply EA. That worked for my S. Good luck!

Well, I can't apply ED because I am applying to a lot of schools EA and I need to see the various fin aid packages. By applying early, do you just mean the first available day when regular apps are accepted?

Apply EA, early action, which is not binding. As I recall, the deadline is Nov 1. My S received merit award info along with acceptance in late Dec. This is well before any financial need info is even submitted, so Case is definately "need blind" for it's merit scholarships.

If you are applying ED, early decision, anywhere, you may not be able to apply EA elsewhere. You will have to check each school's specific guidelines for ED and EA.

Oh that is weird, Case has both ED and EA. Sorry about that...

I'll apply EA then, thanks for the help!
