I have been assigned the first registration window which begins on Monday so I am going to call my adviser tomorrow to discuss my classes.
I'm just wondering how the conversation typically goes... What kind of questions should I be prepared to answer? Should I have questions ready to ask her? I have a pretty good idea of what I want to study and I already made some decisions about my schedule and put the classes I want to take in my cart on YES. Will this make the process smoother?

Your adviser typically won’t have too much to say. Their job is to make sure you’re taking the right classes to fulfill degree/AXLE requirements and answer any questions you have.

If you have any questions about credit, have them ready- if you’re confused about what you already have credit for, what courses you will need to take, how AXLE works, etc. I didn’t even contact my adviser until registering for second semester (at which point it becomes required for registration). Then again the engineering curriculum is much less flexible than A&S majors.

Having your course basically arranged in your cart will definitely make it smoother. Be on the lookout for some backup classes, because some classes may fill pretty much instantly when registration starts (happens often with smaller classes and writing seminars). Lots of students don’t realize how important it is to be ready to register literally the second that registration opens.

Your adviser probably won’t ask much other than about your academic interests.
