Fairfield University
Providence College
University of Vermont
Santa Clara University
Stonehill College
Quinnipiac University
Loyola College of Maryland

I was rejected at Providence, deferred at UVM and Fairfield.

I haven't heard back from the rest, but with this start I'm seriously starting to freak out. Here are my stats:

SATs: CR: 630 Math: 510 Writing: 660 = 1800
ACTs: 26
GPA: unweighted: 3.24 and I have a 3.4 so far for my senior year
Extra-curriculars: softball and field hockey on and off (really bad injury, 6 surgeries, messed up athletics), and started a cancer fund for Sloan Kettering research center...and I work at the local Safeway.

I go to a small private school in Northern Virginia, but I moved from New Jersey mid junior year. Which explains all the northern schools. I'm also a white girl, if that has any relevance. I know my math SAT sucks, but I've taken it 3 times, it's not getting any higher. I want to know what you guys think my chances are at Stonehill, Loyola, Santa Clara, and Quinnipiac. Also, I have a new list of schools to narrow down to apply for regular. Primarily the list consists of UMass Amherst, Scranton, St. Joe's in PA, and maybe Towson. Any insight? Thanks! I don't want to come off as if I'm just scrounging for some confidence....I just need some input from someone OTHER than my parents.

Ive been rejected to if it makes you feel any better. Stonehill and Quinnipiac are matches. Umass Amherst is also probaly a safe match. I dont know anything about the other.

Thanks, I appreciate that. Any one else have an opinion? My parents just keep saying “Well, I think you’ll get in…I mean I hope you do, I don’t know what we’ll do with you if you don’t…”- Not exactly helping!

Do you know what you want? Does your application indicate your strengths and passions? Did you take the strongest course of studies your school offers?

Providence is clear that sucess in and strength of curricula are their strongest criteria. Also, PC does not require SATs so your Math score is not likely the issue for them - unless you were applying to a math or science major there - did you submit your scores there? If you did, perhaps, you do not want to do that with other schools. Try to learn from PC’s feedback.

Since you are deferred from UVM and Fairfield, you are still being considered at both places and that is good news. Now, you need to think about how to enhance your chances of admission.

A letter to the school that is your sincere first choice with specific reasons about why you are a fit and why you can make a difference to the community may make a difference.

Thank you for your feedback. I made sure my application pushed my passion for history and my interest in Cancer research thoroughly. I slacked a bit during the first 2 years of high school, could come up with a few excuses here and there but only to make myself feel better. I think I understand why PC rejected me, it just has been getting frustrating. I want to know if I should be scrounging up super safety schools or just hoping for the best with the 4 I have yet to hear from. It’s a stressful time.

Have you looked at Clark University - it’s a very interesting school. You seem to have some passion and strength. This is a school that looks at the individual - give it a look on Google, you might be a fit. Best of luck.

I actually have looked into that, because I know that they have a graduate program on Holocaust studies which is something I am extremely passionate about. Would the fact that I’m coming from VA affect my chances though? I feel like the northern schools having no idea where I’m coming from is maybe making some problems for me. Or that could always just be me making myself feel better, can never really tell. Thank you though! I will definitely look deeper.

I’m a decently new Va. resident, moved from NJ middle of my junior year. I kind of despise it here. I know it’s bad that I hate it because there are SO many good schools down here, I get glared at by my dad at least 5 times a day for shooting him down every time he mentions a Virginia school. They’re forcing me to apply to George Mason and JMU I believe. (no way would I go, unless it was absolutely necessary)

I think Towson might have been one of the schools I put on there just to make my parents semi-happy. They were getting frustrated that I only wanted to apply to northeast schools. I’m probably driving them insane. But, I will look into Mary Washington. I know a couple kids who go there. Thank You!

bump, anything really you could tell me on Quinn. Loyola of Maryland Santa Clara or Stonehill and how well you think my chances are would be perfect.
