I've been admitted to UCB for the Spring Quarter, and I'm sure there are others in this situation as well.

What does everyone plan on doing?

Maybe we could discuss our options here.

I've been admitted to UCB for the Spring Quarter, and I'm sure there are others in this situation as well.

What does everyone plan on doing?

Maybe we could discuss our options here.

Where does it tell you you are a spring admit?

It's right in the admissions letter:

Dear Poppin3000,

Congratulations! I am delighted to welcome you to the College of Letters and Science at the University of California, Berkeley for the spring semester 2009, which starts in January.

We realize you did not apply for the spring term, but we believe you could be a strong addition to our campus even if we can’t offer you admissions for fall. Your deferred admission is an indication of the size and rigor of our transfer applicant pool, which numbered more than 12,000 this year, rather than a reflection on your academic or personal performance.

The next step for you to take is formal acceptance of our admission offer. Everything you need to do and know is available in the Next Steps section on the Home page (click the Home tab above) in myBerkeleyApplication.

We hope you will picture yourself at Berkeley in the spring, a place where you truly can change the world.

Again, welcome to Berkeley! We believe in you and the unique contributions you will make here at Cal.

Sincerely,
WR sign

Walter A. Robinson
Director, Office of Undergraduate Admissions

yeah I saw the "congratulations" and did a little dance.

then I saw "Spring Admit" and I was like...

o...

hi2u...

I should feel lucky I was even admitted though--Overall I have a 3.7+ GPA but I have a 3.1 or a 3.2 in my major prerequisites (Economics). Basically my only B's were in my major prereqs.

rant disclaimer

let me preface this by saying im happy i got in and i understand that the soc. science department at ucb is very competitive but....

i got a 3.94 overall gpa with 4.0 in my major with all pre-reqs completed prior to spring semester
i had my personal statements reviewed and evaluated by a uc rep. who said they were good
had 4 ec's and hadwork experience
i just feel extremely frustrated cause im at my max for transferable units and i dont have the money to pay for an extra semester of housing there
plus if i decide to stay home for the first semester ill get dropped from my parents health insurance because of not having any units
i know you can appeal a rejection but is there anyway to appeal a spring admit for fall?

That sucks. I got admitted for all. But I kinda want to differ my admissions to spring so I can work and relax and stuff. Basically an extended summer vacation. I'm sick of school.

I got deferred to the Spring semester as well. Does anyone know if we can take classes at Berkeley during the Fall?

Go to Berkeley. Take some time off. Get a job and make some money. If you already have a job, take more hours. If you already have money, go to Europe. If you've already been to Europe, go to southeast Asia. Visit your loved ones more. Read books. Do something other than school, I'm sure you've earned it.

As a person who got in with Fall admittance, I'm slightly envious of the Spring admits.

LOPSIDE SAID IT PERFECTLY and he said it in the right order.
Do that exactly.
Lopside; your a genius, no sarcasm.

I also got deferred to Spring 09.

I'll most definitely go, since I wasn't able to go to school for 2005-2007 (family business). After the long wait, going back to a university will be exciting! (I originally went to GWU as a freshman, then transferred to a CC, and now am going to UCB)

actually I think i'll take berkeley's offer. hopefully I can drop my calc 3 class this quarter and take it over either the fall or summer. that'd be sweeet.

I too was accepted for the Spring semester. I have no idea what I'm going to do. I was accepted at UCSD, and am still "pending" at UCLA. This is going to be a difficult decision. The website says that Spring admits usually graduate on time with fall admits, however I do not see how that would be possible. I just want to get started as soon as possible so I can be done as soon as possible!

I think the site was referring to the Spring admits who are freshmen since freshmen are allowed to enroll in their extension program for credits. But for us transfers, I doubt we'll graduate on time with the Fall admits.

I wonder if berkeley would let you guys switch? I mean, both those who got into for the Fall and Spring are definitely qualified for berkeley, they just accept spring admits because usually space opens up in the spring. I really can't think of any reason they wouldn't let you guys switch. hmmm.

I also got accepted to UCB for Spring, I am probably going to UCMerced for the fall. but I am not sure if berkeley will be ok with that.

haha, yeah, they probably wouldn't be too cool with the idea... I actually was admitted as a spring applicant to the liberal arts college I'm at now, and taking the extra semester off was wonderful! There are so many things you can do with your time off, just like lopside said. I actually got an internship at UCSF during the fall before I started school, and I believe that was one of the main reasons I got accepted to Berkeley. I also know there are internships or related activities you can take for academic credit, so if you did start a semester late you might not be too far behind everybody else. So if I were you, I wouldn't dismiss the idea of starting in the spring tooooo quickly.

bump

10char

I also got accepted to UCB for Spring, I am probably going to UCMerced for the fall. but I am not sure if berkeley will be ok with that.

Hey Strider,

You need to contact your admissions officer if you want to take any classes at another 4 year college--check your provisional contract for details on the myberkeleyapp site
