Some friends were talking about Catholic colleges, especially those on the west coast.

One friend said that in terms of ranking for competitiveness, prestige, reputation that Santa Clara would be first, and Gonzaga second. Another friend disagreed and said Santa Clara first, Gonzaga second.

While they agreed that Portland was third and St. Mary's fourth, a third friend said St. Mary's would be last.

Somehow, I ended up refereeing the discussion.

So, members of the forum how would you rate the following Catholic Colleges on the West Coast in terms of competitiveness, reputation, etc: from North to South, Seattle U, Gonzaga, U Portland, U San Francisco, St. Mary's, Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount, U San Diego.

interesting question; we've visited 5 of the schools listed in California. ...SCU, USD, USF, LMU and St Mary's. You might look at the US News rankings, but beyond that, what are your interests/majors...that may have some bearing on how they rank for you.

I'd definitely put USD ahead of all the other West Coast Catholic schools. It's ranked higher in terms of academics and is the toughest to get into.

By the way..... you friends know absolutely nothing about these schools if they're ranking GONZAGA at the top. Gonzaga is a nice school, but not even close to the likes of: Santa Clara, USD, and USF
