Does anyone else on here go to a Catholic/parochial high school? BTW, I am not Catholic though....Is yours strict? What are your uniform/dress code like, etc?

yah, i go to a Catholic Prep High School in California and i like it. it's strict but not too bad. our uniform is more of a dress code that we buy from Land's End. Most girls where the guys shorts or pants b/c the girls choices are so ugly. I wish though that we had the kind of uniform that goes all out: blazer, ties, mary janes...i dunno, i just think it'd be way more fun. how do you like your highschool?

Yes, I too go to a Catholic High School in California. Mine is all-girls. It is pretty strict at my school, but not as bad as many others are. As for dress code, we have to wear a uniform but wear a decent amount of acessories with it - cool shoes, jewelry, and a lot of other crazy things

I order my uniform from Lands End too! Yeah my schools pretty cool. It has a really good reputation, two Boys/Girls Club National Youths of the Year went to my school, someone did the Senate Page Program, a girl got a 1600 SAT, and we do have to pray and do liturgy, but its not a conservative hell-hole either. Its in the poorest city in Massachusetts, but the school just had a ton of construction done and it looks great. How big are your schools, mine has 1200 students.

I go to an all-guys Catholic school in Massachusetts. 340 students.

Discipline is pretty strict (e.g. any sort of drug or alcohol violation is an automatic expulsion), but it's fair, because it's decided by a student disciplinary committee, whose decision is then approved by the headmaster. Dress code is jacket and tie, but it's not a uniform, just any blazer and tie you want.

I went to an all-girls Catholic school. 600 students (there was 120 in my graduating class) We had a horrendous uniform, a wine jumper with a calf-length skirt and a white shirt under it. Black shoes and navy socks. My school had nuns and was very in-your-face about religion. Religion classes were compulsory all 6 years (we don't have middle school, but high school is 6 years) and a lot of the teachers would start classes with a prayer. I hated it... and in my final year I was kicked out of my religion class for questioning the existence of God in front of a 78 year old nun.
TBH I was happy about that... I was overloading classes and it gave me a study period :)

All-girls Catholic high school here. Our uniform isn't that bad--white oxford or polo (have to be bought a certain store with the school's crest on it) with a plaid skirt. The rules are really strict about accessories and hair color and all that, but only a few teachers actually care about the rules. What is AWFUL is that if you are caught out of uniform (too short skirt, shoes that aren't a solid color, more than one earring/bracelet/ring, shirt untucked, wrong shirt, whatever) then you basically lose any club leadership position. Everybody hates that we have to stay in uniform, but basically everyone does it.

Religion class (required all 4 years) tends to be hit or miss. The very strongest teachers and the very weakest teachers teach religion, but I've been lucky for the most part. We have mass 2 times a month, and prayer every morning. Every once in a while a teacher will start praying, but it's not a big deal. There are nuns around but only a few wear their habits.

It's super-conservative, but the humanities teachers tend to be more liberal and always enjoy talking with students about the school's many faults. Discussion isn't really allowed though, and if arguments or debates do break out, they get ugly fast.

I go to Catholic school in New Jersey. My school has some pretty stupid, strict rules about dress code. Our shoes can only be flat and black or brown. Guys' hair has to be above the collar. No piercings for guys, only ear piercings for girls. The thing that bothers me most is that we're not allowed to wear LiveStrong bracelets and the like. They think it's gang related! Sorry for showing that I support cancer.

I don't mind our uniforms much. I'm used to them since I've gone to Catholic school my whole life. They give us a couple choices for our skirts and shirts. Then this year they're letting us wear school fleeces instead of our ugly sweaters during the winter, which I was glad to hear.

i go to an all-girls catholic school in NJ. we have about 230 students. it's pretty competitive, average SAT 1370. our uniform is a specific white blouse & a green & blue plaid skirt. we can wear any color shoes. basically the only person who's strict about the uniform is our principal, who gave my friend a detention for wearing flip-flops outside in the gazebo at 3:30, a full 30 minutes AFTER school had already ended. and she's crazy about socks. we have to have crew length, fold-over kind that are impossible to find anywhere. some student council people are petitioning to get knee socks to be optional.

i actually dont mind uniforms, i think ours are kindof cute. and they're so much easier than picking out an outfit every morning.

religion.. im a "non-practicing catholic". we have 2 theology teachers, 1 is a nun who i cant stand.. ugh. the other one is a lay person & is really annoying but she's definately not as obnoxious. we pray in homeroom, and in the beginning of every class. we have chapel about 2x a month, pretty much just for every holiday. i just sleep through mass lol. it's not too bad.

Catholic School in IL, Jesuit, therefore pretty liberal... No uniform, just a dress code which give us a ton of options - dress pants and collar for the guys, skirt or pants with collared shirt for the girls. Not too strict, although people do still push the dress code, even though its not that tough, and everyday there are a bunch of people with JUG - Justice Under God, or detention.

sapphire what school do you go to!?

And I go to a Jesuit School in Jersey City........ the Jesuits, I wouldn't consider them Catholic they are just simply put, amazing. I am not of the Christian faith yet I enjoy it so much there

Jesuits RULE. They are the coolest Catholics of them all.

I go to an all-guys Jesuit school in Maryland. My dress code isn't too bad - we gotta wear a shirt and tie (blazers from October-April). The only thing I don't like is the over population of jocks. Religion class is actually pretty fun this year - our teacher is great and funny.

Zetsui, there's no reason not to consider Jesuits Catholic. They absolutely are. They happen to be one of the younger and more vibrant orders, but they are Catholic nonetheless.
