Catholic Univ social life & housing

We D was admitted to CUA with a great merit scholarship. We have visited twice and she really likes a lot about the school and it’s academics. However, after admitted students day, she is confused about a couple things.

  1. Dorms- understand they are all single sex but can you have overnight guests? She said they described having to fill out paperwork for overnight guests, even for current students and guests without paperwork have to be out of the dorms by 11. Is that correct?

Also are there nuns and priests living in the dorms with the students? Are they there to enforce rules or just for guidance? How strict are the rules in the dorms?

  1. Social life. What is the social life like? Does the campus seem empty on weekends because everyone is going into the city or do kids stay on campus? Are there many social events run by the school and are they well attended? What about partying- on or off campus? Can freshman participate?

  2. Food. Is the food really that bad? And is it true that the cafeteria is too small to hold all the students, esp at lunch? Any idea when the new caf will be completed?

@MAmom111 In terms of CUA housing policies: those are very comparable with, for example, Notre Dame’s:

https://housing.catholic.edu/on-campus/living-at-cua/fresh-exp.html

“Undergraduate students live in single sex residence halls. Coupled with programs directed toward student’s personal, spiritual, and moral development, single sex housing fosters an environment of virtuous living consistent with the Catholic intellectual tradition. Each residence hall has several Resident Assistants (RAs) who provide hall leadership, information and activities, and serve as a resource for all students.”
First-Year students live in Flather, Regan, Ryan, and Centennial Village.
