So there’s actually 2 schools that are Catholic that I’d like to apply to, one I am thinking of applying for early decision. They seem like great schools ( CUA is in D.C. which is IDEAL in terms of political science) and I’m catholic so I think that if i go to any religious school, might at well focus on schools of my religion; that being said, I’m going to be pre-med/pre-law ( kinda undecided atm). But I know Catholics tend to be very conservative and so I’m not sure if that would affect my future medical or political career because I heard they tend to be biased with conservative values and I’m very very liberal.
Catholic U is more conservative than many other Catholic colleges. What’s the other school that you’re interested in?
@LuckyCharms913 Is it really? I would’ve thought opposite considering it’s location tbh. The other one is St.Mary’s college ( it’s an all female university), sister school of Notre Dame and it’s super easy to transfer to Notre Dame because they’re considered priority applicants in terms of transferring.
Colleges like Ave Maria and Franciscan U of Steubenville are extremely conservative Catholic institutions. Many other Catholic colleges, like Xavier, Dayton, the Loyolas, Villanova, Providence, etc., are far less conservative. Catholic U falls somewhere in between, but I’d characterize it as closer to the conservative schools. Perhaps some other posters will weigh in.
Don’t know what your stats and finances look like, but have you looked at Loyola MD (in Baltimore and Jesuit) or American U (in DC, non-religious)?
If you want D.C. then how about Georgetown? They are MUCH more liberal than CUA.
@Trisherella I would love to go to Georgetown, but I’m not too sure of what they look for in applicants. Aside from great grades/ test scores.
My D did an overnight at Catholic. She is very liberal. Within two hours of being dropped off, she texted me about how conservative the school was. Our son went to Marquette (Jesuit) and found religion was not as front and center and the school fell in the middle wrt to liberal/conservative. If you are applying ED, you should visit first, if it is not too late.
Catholic doesn’t have ED, they have Early Action, which is not binding.
Catholic University has both early action and early decision. It’s important to verify your information before posting.
