Catholic University of America

Anybody with any insights to this school. My son is interested, not sure of a major, wants to play club hockey, likes the idea of Washington and mid sized school.

Former neighbors of ours were alums. Made lifelong friends there.
It is on a metro line but away from the 'downtown' area. Good amount of diversity in opportunities. Well respected music and theater, accredited undergrad nursing and engineering, architecture too, not to mention all the liberal arts. Follows the tenets of the Catholic church.

We are going to look into it with my twins when we take a trip to DC. I heard as moninava said, they are noted for those things and more. It would just be whether what they want to major in (possibly) in represented there well.
I've read student reviews that were glowing, mediocre and bad, but the main complaints are always that it is too "conservative" "dry" and strict with rules. None of them would bother my daughters since they don't drink and they went to Catholic school for 8 years. The draw for them is having so much near by. The worry for me is that they don't meet all need. : (

My D is a freshman there now. Look in the "Colleges" forum for Catholic University for more input.

Obviously we think it's a great school. Metro stop right on campus, strong academics, amazing campus ministry program that is very service oriented, student body from all around the nation/world. Perhaps its just me but I don't equate Catholic=conservative, meaning both the faith and the school. ANY college is technically "dry" for those under 21 years old.

Debruns, CUA is the only school that gave us need-based aid in addition to merit. They were very, very close to meeting our EFC.

My son is also interested in a Catholic environment, and very interested in DC (prospective Poli Sci major). We toured Catholic U on a trip last month (as well as Georgetown and American).

I have heard positive on this school from kids who have attended.
