I know this isn't exactly the perfect place to post this..
but i just had a quetsion on cats.
my friend takes care of his neighbor's cat. his neighbor just lets the cat off wherever it wants to, but still owns it.

So he usually takes the cat home during the day. But the cat doens't seem to like him, or rather, he seems very scared of him.
especially if you are a cat lover, please help me with this.
How would you gain a cat's trust?? Or are they selfish animals who only purr around you when they need food and hugging?

My cat has a very simple life. For the first part of the day, she sleeps on the back of the couch. For the second part, she moves to the ottoman. she probably gets up about four times to eat and go to the bathroom.

My cats all love me. Pet them and be good to them.

If you have trouble getting them to approach you in the beginning, get some cat nip and hold and rub it between your fingers. The cat will be able to smell it from some distance and should try to jump up and rub against your hand. They will begin to associate coming to your hand with the wonderfully infectious smell of cat nip and before you know it, won't be afraid of you anymore.

I tried to do that to a cat once when I was little, with disasterous results. Pets are a lot more prone to getting killed/dying than trees or humans.

The catnip idea could work, but 30% of cats are not effected by it. If it turns out that the cat is one of the 30% then try a different kind of cat treat (there are many that can be found at all pet stores and groccery stores). Also, you have to be really pacient with cats, you can't expect them to instantly like you. Unlike most dogs. Pet the cat, but let it sniff your hand first and only continue petting if the cat moves forward or doesn't back away when you try to pet him/her. Don't go toward it too much because you look really big and scary to the cat, but let it come to you (this is where the food is helpful).

I have a cat, give him tuna ( not too much...) and just be around him first, then after a few days you can try to pet him. Just keep feeding him. When i first got my cat from the streets ( he didnt have rabies or anything) he immediately went to the corner of the room under a desk. Eventually he got hungry.... After i fed him he jumped onto my lap :)

i love cats, and they love me....give him a few days, cats dont start coming out to new people until they see them alot...they're all different, some purr for food and some purr from petting, just depends

Cats are supreme creatures on our poor Earth :))

Well, I've grown with cats and along the cats (as well as dogs) so I can't really translate my experience to other people, it's hard to explain what it means to be 'nice with them'. Try not to hold them on your hands all the time like they're pillows but stroke them, all that I can say :)
