Caught cheating on test

I was recently caught cheating on an algebra test. Here’s the story…
Well, I’m an ESL student, wich means that this is my first year in the U.S. And since I started my school year I have always stand out among my classmates with my high grades. Every single teacher at school knew me as the role model student.
My dream has always been winning a scholarship to study psychology and languajes(english, french and german)
I’m also known as the nice girl who helps everyone, to be honest it’s hard for me to say no.
So, the morning before the test I was walking down the hallway with my friends, and one of them reminded me about the test, and she said that it would be very hard to her to pass the test, so she told me if I could help her with some of the answers. I’m not trying to excuse myself by saying this, I could easily said “no”, but I didn’t.
While doing the test I made eye contact with my friend and I softly stretched my answer sheet to her. Unfortunately, the teacher saw us and she send us to our Assistant Principal’s office.
She asked us if what the teacher were saying was true, and my friend quickly answered no to all… but I said the truth. Our AP gave us two days of SAC (temporary class removal).
I was literally crying (that wouldn’t help, but that’s how I reacted).
I was very scared and regretful, I have never broke any rule of the code of conduct.
Teachers still treating me nicely, they even felt sorry about what happened to me, they told me not to worry. They knew that I was uncapable to broke any rule, but my friends led me to…( and that’s not an excuse, it was my fault)
At that time I didn’t know what would happen with all my aspirations, did I screw it up? Do I have any chance to win a scholarship?

PD: sorry about my english, I tried the best.

What grade are you in? Did you get any official thing about misconduct put onto your transcript? Do you have to inform colleges/scholarship programs about this? These are all important factors – if no to the last one, then forget about this.

That said, if you do have to inform colleges/scholarship programs, you should do everything you can to change this. Explain to your principal what actually happened, how you didn’t benefit at all from the cheating, how you can’t say no, how you were honest, etc. While your mistake won’t ruin your chances for scholarships, you should do as much as you can to ensure that it won’t be on your transcript.

You didn’t cheat, you just helped someone cheat. It’s like tutoring…but just on an exam.

I don’t think you should worry, however, your friend should worry.

@cc8912 I’m in 9th grade. And I’m not sure about that, I asked my AP and she said it wasn’t that important; but someone from the staff called my parents and told them all the consecuences about my misconduct, and one of them was being unable to win a scholarship. I’m not sure. Thanks btw!
@WhoTouchedMyTaco that’s actually true…
And about my friend, that’s the funniest thing! I’m almost dying about this and she is so relaxed and seem not to worry…

thanks!

@WhoTouchedMyTaco , sorry, but yes, she cheated. She was an accomplice to a “crime” and she is just as guilty. However, she seems very remorseful.

OP, go in and speak with your school counselor. Ask if it will be on your school record. Apologize to the teacher who caught you. And next time, just say no.

@Lindagaf okay you’re right. Sorry to break it to ya OP, looks like you’re going to jail.
