Caught Cheating

What permanent record is this? Your school transcript? Because collegeboard does NOT report the reason scores are canceled…heck, if you take the SAT three times and cancel the first one (before it is scored), schools will never know.

Yeah, I was also wondering that. I don’t think they can report you cheated. They just cancel the scores. But if they do, use my above suggestion…

hardworking, how can i cancel my SAT because i just took it today

Go to collegeboard and look under the scores section. You have to fax or next-day mail them a written request to cancel your scores. They must receive it by Wednesday the latest.

pch thank you so much, so if i cancel my SAT it will be as if i didn’t wake up early in my saturday morning to take a 4 hour test?

I imagine you have felt pretty miserable for the last 2 hours or so. Hopefully, you will never want to repeat having this sensation.

I believe the poster above is correct: your score will be invalidated and the schools you apply to will receive a generic message about it. See this link

[The consequences of cheating on the SAT or ACT - washingtonpost.com](http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/28/AR2010032802680.html)

Do I know if this is still correct? No, but I believe this policy has been in place for some time.

so my best option is to send a score cancellation?

What a jerk! Seriously, they usually just tell you to stop and like give you a warning. I’m sorry that happened, but never, ever, ever give up!

one guy in my classroom received a notification for this and that’s it. The proctor definetly has gone wild. I feel sorry for you.

even though you should not have done that, i’m sure EVERYONE on this forum who has taken the SAT knows how much it sucks when you run out of time to do a question you KNOW how to do. that one question could be the difference between a score in the 1900s and a score in the 2000s.

BUT, it’s part of taking the test and you SHOULD have to face the consequences for that. if everyone else follows the rules, why shouldn’t you? i say you try for a score cancellation but if colleges are notified that you cheated, that won’t be good at all. i say try going to a community college/transferring to state school IF that does happen.

yea if i had a warning i wouldn’t of done it. blah i just hate how when i can’t solve something that i want to find out the answer real bad.

What is done is done.
You will have to explain yourself in all your college applications if it shows up on your College Board record.
So not worth the trouble for a few points.
Depending how stellar your gpa, curriculum rigor, your research and ECs, you may still get into tippy top schools.
What did your parents say?

It is my first SAT i’ve ever taken and I am not really aware of the consequences if caught, i only thought that it would only invalidate my score. I’ve already told my parents and they are yet to talk to me when they get home. I know i shouldnt of done it, and i know can’t change has been done. All my life I’ve focus alot in school and worked hard without anyones helped. But, man one question…

I think the proctor was trying to scare you a little (and I hope it worked). But I think if you cancel your scores, nothing bad happens except you wasted a little bit of time and money.

Hopefully she was just trying to scare me, cause im a school boy and when i was walking home after i got kicked out my hands were shanking and i had a hard time breathing. I truely learned my lesson. All i could do is just face my consequences and pray.

That article makes the consequnces for the OP alot less harsh

cancel your scores for sure.
feel bad for you tho dude. goodluck

However, if the proctor does make a cheating notation on his CB record, when he takes his SAT IIs, which are required for tech schools and others, his infraction will pop up.

Not much the OP can do now except work on controlling his destructive impulsive behaviors.

Batllo, what is the difference from SAT and SAT II and what does OP stand for sorry im a newbie

This will not be on any permanent record. Don’t worry, nothing is going to happen except that you will not get a score for this test.
