Recently, I was caught stealing from the bookstore and I was left with no choice but to pay $70 for the stuff I took. Now I have to meet up with the dean a couple weeks from now to argue for my case and receive a punishment. What are my chances of getting expelled from UCSD, get my financial aid taken away, or lose my housing contract? I know I was being stupid and I wont do it ever again. Getting caught has made me depressed like hell and I can't focus on anuthing

You probably won’t be expelled but it goes on your record which may hurt your chances at some rigorous grad schools.

If it doesn’t concretely go into your transcript, grad schools won’t ever know about it.

The only school document I sent to the 10 doctoral programs I applied to this year was my transcript, and it didn’t have any of my MIP/Non-Academic Probation information on it.

As far as I know, no other school communication (besides my LORs) were transmitted between UCSD and other universities.

bookstore prices are ridiculous anyway. btw, how did you get caught? did you not peel off the UPC before leaving the store?

There is an entire task force dedicated to surveillance and monitoring the bookstore.

Oh did not know that. I guess the op didn’t either. :P

@beingStupid:
I just had the same thing happen. I was so scatterbrained that I accidentally walked out without paying for a textbook. It was an honest mistake, but I’m having to go through the same thing. I was told I was being arrested for petty theft. Might I ask what happened to you? What all did they do or did you have to do? What was the outcome? I’m so terrified that all my hard work will be for nothing because of a stupid mistake. Please help.

if it’s not too much to ask, how did you get caught?
not that i would advocate stealing, but i totally understand where you’re coming from. those bookstore prices are so ridiculous.

I juts got caught stealing from the SDSU bookstore. What happend to you? I have my hearing on the 22nd

i just got caught too, stealing a pair of 9 dollar safety goggles, what will happen?

does anyone know the consequences?

@flyinrae

Tell them it’s an honest mistake. Do you have people, preferably with good reputation and in a position of authority (professor, supervisor, etc.), who know you well and can vouch for your character?

I know it was three years ago, but can you tell what they did at the hearing at sdsu because I just got caught for the same thing

i was caught stealing from the bookstore, $300 worth of stuff over a month and a half. I paid it back in full and no charges are going to be filed against me as I’ve never done anything like this in my life, was very honest and obviously acutely embarassed. Great student with great grades. I feel so much remorse it’s about to kill me. I am absolutely terrified that I will be dismissed from school on Monday even though I have been told the likelihood is low. I’ve never felt the need to steal in my life. School is my number one priority and I’m having a really rough time with this. What are my chances of getting kicked out
