Caution! Re: Senior Pranks

corranged-
The grass grew back on its own within a month so it didn't in any way trouble the maintenance staff. The girls cleaned up all the refuse as well. When everyone arrived at the school in the AM there was just a giant manure pile in the center of senior lawn spelling out 06'.

Best prank when I was in school - several seniors somehow got hold of the body panels of a VW bug, cut a notch in the roof and re-assembled it around the base of the flagpole. A few spot welds held the parts in place. Didn't hurt the flagpole, just looked very funny.
But yes, way too many of these have unforseen consequences and result in someone not crossing the stage the next week.

I think that the alarm clock prank sounds like a great--and completely harmless--one. A bomb scare? Maybe if you watch too many cartoons!

Well they had taped duct tape to the back of the alarms so they'd be hard to turn off. I can see how the adults were alarmed, but I do believe they completely overreacted.

I can go the lawn prank one better - totally not destructive, no clean-up and long-lasting - but it requires patience.

A friend in college told me what he and his friends did at their hs. In the middle of the night they went to the lawn in front of the hs, staked out their class year, and used drop-spreaders to spread grass seed and fertilizer. Then they pulled up the stakes and took everything home. By the time they left for college in the fall, there was a dark green "85" in the lawn, which I'm told was visible for almost 2 years. The next year's seniors had to look at it all year...

^^^^^^
I like that one!!

One of the dumbest senior pranks that happened at my school was students took all the library book (prep school, so fairly extensive library) and arranged them on the lawn in the shape of a giant *****.

Dumb in and of itself, however they had to put the books back on the shelf in Dewey Decimal order.

I go to a private high school in Ohio. We had a whole week of pranks at our school, all of which were allowed (to some degree, at least) by the administration.

Monday: Cross-dressing day. And at school meeting, one senior read an announcement naked (it was very tastefully done, with carefully placed towels)

Tuesday: Pirate-vs-Ninja day and a party in the main senior hangout, including iced-tea-pong and loud music.

Wednesday: We got the maintenance staff to let us in. We built a cinderblock wall across the main hallway and tagged it with spraypaint, put all the teacher's lounge furniture in the hallway, and put a gigantic, 20-foot trampoline in the auditorium. And we filled the secretary's office (a glass box-like room where two hallways meet in a T) with balloons.

Thursday: senior skip day.

Friday: waterpark bonanza and party on the roof.

The best part was the wall, of course, tagged with a gigantic "OOHHH-EIGHT!!!" in multi-colored spraypaint.

Re animal pranks: my S told me that a few years ago some seniors put chickens in several lockers. When the unsuspecting students opened them, out popped a squawking hen.

Sounded like an amusing idea in theory, except that in practice one of the chickens died and the perps became the object of much scorn. (It probably had a heart attack from fright...chickens can be vulnerable to that. I told my S not to even THINK about using my beloved chickens for a prank!)

There was a huge food fight at the HS last week, which resulted in the senior class having to use some of their graduation money to clean/replace stuff in the cafetorium. It's not clear whether it was a senior prank or the jrs vs the seniors, but the seniors are paying. S was away at a festival that day, or I'm sure he would have enthusiastically participated, alas. (I've never gotten the food fight thing.)

There was a food fight the other day at my Ss school. It happened during the other lunch period, so my S didn't see it. The kids involved were suspended for a day, and there were a couple of seniors in that bunch. My S was aggravated because those seniors "got to miss" a graduation practice because of this. It was almost a reward for their behavior, and they will graduate on Tuesday with everyone else. My S does understand that a suspension wouldn't look good to anyone's college at this point.

Here in Anchorage about a month ago, a group of senior boys bought quick set concrete and epoxy glue at the local Lowe's. They were planning on making concrete barriers to place in all the roads leading into the school and putting the glue in the door locks so no one could enter the school. No one checked the temperature at 2:00 am as it was too cold for the concrete to set up. They did manage to get the glue in the school door locks.
The local school district was able to figure out all involved with the help of the Lowe's store video cameras.
The punishment just from the school district was that these boys were not allow to walk at their school's graduation ceremony, 50 hours of community service each and not allowed to participate in any other school activities.
These boys also might have to face felony charges from the local police since they were trespassing and also destroyed public property. Charges haven't yet been filed.
----Why can't kids choose to do something CONSTRUCTIVE instead of destructive for their school or community? ( I do like the canned food idea posted above!)

One more thought.........can you imagine having to call all of your relatives that had already made travel plans for Alaska and tell them "Johnny" won't be walking in his school's ceremony............
Think before you do any prank.

My son's high school had the glue in the locks prank last year. The cost of replacing the locks was quite large. I know they were suspended and did not get to complete the rest of the senior year and no graduation ceremony. There was talk of felony charges but I never heard it go further then talk. From what I heard each boys family came up with money for the repairs. Also since all of them went away to school this fall it was either not put on the final transcript or the colleges did not care. (one of them on an athletic scholarship to a DIV 1 school) All the boys were on multiple sports teams and well know in the community and school. I don't know if they would have gotten off so lightly if they were not athletes.

Yeah they super glued pennies onto the locks at our school as well. The kids who did it were not allowed to walk, but they still graduated. Also, there was a 5 second "food fight," and those kids were also denied the right to walk during graduation ceremony, and the non-seniors were suspended for 5 days.

They also went around checking cell phones, and if anyone had text messages about the fight, they were suspended for 4 days for not informing the office.

Over 30 years ago, we all camped out on the principal's lawn. He lived in the country, there was a lot of room and the principal and his wife served snacks all night. People still talk about it.
