CBHP e-mail invites are out

Hey, Guys,

Check all of your e-mails. D2 just called and said a lady from the CBHP program called her and told her to check her e-mail and sure enough, she was lucky enough to get an invite to the CBHP weekend. Good luck to you all.

Congrats!!!

your D is in for the long haul with 4 days!!! There are others here that will have the same, so hopefully then can get-together on Saturday afternoon/eve and hangout!

They should have some free time between Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. I wonder if honors is arranging anything during that time for the kids who’ll be coming for both.

Son was informed that he is a finalist for CBH. Also received call and email. Very excited. I checked info on site and was disappointed to see that although parents can attend, there are no planned “events” for them. I am hoping to see the campus and would have liked at least an “official” tour.

Welldad…

Congrats!!!

See if there are still campus tour spots available for Monday morning. If not, then call Jami Gates and ask what can be arranged for Monday morning.

Thanks Mom - I just registered for info session and campus tour on Monday.

Good!!! Now you’ll get some info!! :)

Great idea! Son wants to go alone, but we would love to get an opportunity to get some more info while he’s doing his thing. We did a short bus tour after Capstone, but would love to see more and get more general campus info. Thanks so much for the tip!

Congrats!!!

It’s amazing how many finalists for CBH and UFE we have on this board!

:)

Montegut…when did your son receive his email?

Does anyone know how many finalists they accepted in the CBHP? I hear they cut it down to 40, so I was wondering what D2’s chances are of surviving the last cut. Thanks.

Last year, my son, who is in CBHP, said there were 52 finalists selected, but not all could make the interviews for various reasons – a few were also finalists for Fellows, and those interviews were held later in the week.

Thanks, Momreads.

Bikedad

Bike…

Usually there are from 50-60 finalists, and like momreads says, not all can come for the weekend. A few will arrange other times to be interviewed.

When DS1 went, 57 kids were there. Then 40 were selected.

At this point, the finalists are being reviewed for personality, social skills, poise, self-confidence, etc.

CBH (and probably Fellows) doesn’t want kids who are too shy to give presentations, who are arrogant and rude, and who don’t keep themselves decently groomed (I don’t mean like a fashion-plate, I mean clean body, clean & combed hair, clean & neat clothes, etc.)

Would anyone like to comment on the differences between the CBHP finalists interview process/questions and the FE interview/process questions? D2 was noticing the diffence in the tone/questions of their e-mails. Just wondering. Thanks.

Bikedad

DS got his rejection email this morning - but did say he was in the “reserve pool” which may be pulled from should there be enough CBH people who decide not to attend.

It was a great letter saying they are sure he would perform exceptionally well in the program etc. but given the number of research spots etc… highlighting other opportunities at UA and all, the personal attention given to each student…

Speaking as a mom, this was just perfect - (esp. considering if I had not been on here would not have known the acceptances had been sent yesterday) everything should be this well-written and optimistic. Reinforces why I think UA is the right choice for DS.

*Would anyone like to comment on the differences between the CBHP finalists interview process/questions and the FE interview/process questions? D2 was noticing the diffence in the tone/questions of their e-mails. Just wondering. Thanks. *

What was the difference? Was it a male/female thing? Dr. Sharpe (male) puts out the CBH info, while Dr. Morgan (female) puts out the UFE info.

Of course, the mission of each program is very different, so that may account for some differences.

I could have my son ask some kids who are in both what differences they noticed.

I also think that UFE tries to figure out who is just applying to UFE to have a chance at the Academic Elite scholarship, but doesn’t have a real interest in the program.

I have a feeling that after those 8-10 scholarships are awarded, some kids don’t continue.

^seems like as far as the UFE Academic Elite scholarships go, NMF students who are being considered will already have full scholarship so the award cant really be a factor. Likewise I assume most will have at least received Presidential scholarship, so if students from these 2 categories are chosen for UFE than their Elite Scholarship money will go alot further…
Wonder if the consider this at all when choosing their finalists?

^^^^

It’s because of the above issues, that I think the whole Elite $$ needs to change. I think all the UFE kids should just be given a flat amount no matter what their other scholarships are. Say…$4k each or something.

I got the reserve pool email too. mom2collegekids, do you know how big the pool is or how many people are accepted off the waitlist?

I remember reading the NMF’s will not or at least have very little chance of winning an Academic Elite scholarship. A set scholarship amount for all students would be a good idea, but how about just giving the NMF package to all fellows who don’t have it already?

Michael2010, m2ck may have an exact number of students who got into CBH off the waitlist, but I have never seen that number. If I recall correctly, Dr. Sharpe wants you to constantly reaffirm your desire to be in CBH by sending resumes and e-mails to him. Last year, he was still soliciting CBH applications in May, which kinda irked me as I was already on the waiting list. Momreads’s son may know of some people who got off the waitlist though.

reserve pool letter here too. would be good to know before may 1st so can make a decision,!
