I get 4 free score reports for my SAT II Math II I just took. Should I send it to 4 colleges? I'm a sophomore, and I think I did good (800), but I don't really know which schools to send it to..

can this hurt me in any way, or should I just send it to 4 schools? (besides scoring low)

That would be my advice too. Unless you’ve also taken the SAT and another SAT II already, you’ll have to send everything later anyway. And by waiting, you’ll have a better idea of where you stand on testing. Also, if you plan on trying the ACT, you will want to see which you do better in and send that.

While it may save you a few dollars, with Score Choice at many schools and the option of sending ACT or SAT scores, it’s usually better to wait and know what you’re sending.

My D2 took her first SAT II as a soph, didn’t send score reports. Then took the SAT twice as a jr, didn’t send score reports. Now, at the end of jr yr she took another SAT II in a subject that she took an AP class for and felt confident about, she sent free score reports for all scores to schools she knows she wants to apply to next fall.

Dissenting opinion - I say send them, it won’t hurt at all. The four schools will become aware of you, and it will help when you apply for college and you say “I’ve loved you since sophomore year when I sent you my Math SAT II scores”. My son is a homeschooler and our state requires a nationally standardized test every two years, so he’s taken the SAT for ages. He always made use of his score reports, and none of the schools he sent it to early rejected him later.

I would probably wait. If it is a low score it can be considered against you later when you apply, and there is really no advantage to sending scores sophomore year except that it will get you on the school’s marketing list to whom it sends promotional materials as it does with thousands of potential applicants, and those in charge of sending you promotional materials make no decisons relating to admission. Note, if you are taking SAT or another SAT II in the future, you will be able to send this score with those later without paying any additonal fee.

Does the score report send your whole SAT testing “portfolio”? as in everything?
Because I’m taking SAT, SAT II, APs next year…if everything is sent in the score report, I don’t see why I would send it now

First, APs are separate from SAT/ACT and are self-reported when applying to schools, you only send actual AP score reports to the school where you matriculate (this is changing somewhat as a few schools, like NYU, will accept AP scores in lieu of other standardized testing).

It used to be that when you asked the CB to send your SAT scores, they sent them all, SAT & SAT IIs, all sittings. But with the new Score Choice, that has changed, you can tell them which scores to send (SAT by date and SAT IIs by test), it costs the same to send all or some scores. However, while some schools let you chose which scores to send, others want to see all of your scores. Go to the CB website and read about how Score Choice works, each school’s website will tell you if they permit score choice or not.

While sending scores early might show your ‘love’ for a school, be aware that only some schools ‘care’ if you show interest. Many selective schools have such high yield rates that they don’t keep track of visits, designation for NM, etc.
