CB's Practice PSAT 08

paki786 - I read the question, go to the passage and read until I find the answer. Then I read the second question and continue reading the passage until I find the answer. And so on. Save the general or broad questions till the end.

Works for me.

I got:
CR: 62
M: 73
WR: 66
I would’ve had an 80 in Math, I just did it in 15 minutes with a noisy background
Still, it is a HUGE improvement from last year for me!

I just took it and I’m happy to have scored in the 99th percentile for all three (yes I’m kinda private when it comes to test scores).

One funny thing: I was checking my answers for writing and I had gotten 1-38 right. Of course, I get #39 wrong. Sadly enough, I finished problems 1-38 in 25 min and said “screw it I’m not waiting 5 more minutes to get my score” and just put down what looked right for 39. If I had taken the 10 seconds to review the last paragraph of the passage, I would’ve gotten it right.

As RR says, be paranoid about making mistakes (especially for math)!

I always read the passage then answer the questions..helps me get a feel for the tone and overall perspective of the author.

But reading has always been my strength and I read quickly, so if you read slowly it might just slow you down.

Cr: 76
Math: 76
Writing: 75

227

but that test was way to easy…there’s no way the actual test on Sat. is going to be that easy

CR: 80
Math: 76 (should be an 80; i gridded in 2.5 instead of 2.50 for one of the problems)
Writing: 78

Might have gotten my CR and W scores mixed up.

Isn’t 2.5 and 2.50 the same thing in the grid-ins?

Yes…it should be.

I was also wondering if anyone has seen an inceasing pattern in their PAST scores. Freshman year I had in the 160 range…164 I think. Sophomore year I (somehow) got a 192. Does this happen a lot? Can I expect to see such an increase this year…not a 30 point necessarily but at least 10 or 15?

I saw a steady increase in my score too. According to the online check-yours-scores thing, I made a 189 in the 9th grade, and a 202 in the 10th grade. I just hope to make a +13 bump yet again and get a 215. At least.

I’m pretty happy with what I got on the practice test though.
M: 76 (Missed #19)
CR: 72 (Missed #s 28, 32, 40, and 42)
WR: 64 (Missed #s 6(***?!), 9, 26, 34, 35, 39)

Which is a grand total of…212. Which is borderline.

"72 in CR
70 in M
69 in W

Total: 211
Amazingly I missed 11 in CR, yet it’s my top score. o_O"

There’s NO WAY you missed 11 and still got a 72. You subtract (0.25 x # of wrong answers) from (the total amount of correct answers x 1) = your score. I’m guessing you got a 61 in CR, assuming you answered every question.

lol i had a 154 freshman year.. a 153 sophomore year .. and on a recent practice test. a 209. That’s something huh?

i never took the psat in freshman year .. our school didn’t even offer it.

Just did it…hey, better late than never, right?

72 CR
71 W
68 M
211 Total

I would be quite happy if I could bump the math up a little bit (the geometry always gets me), but other than that I think I’ll be okay.
