Hi, I'm a student of grade 12 studying at a CBSE curriculum school in the UAE. I wanted to know whether getting an aggregate of about 88% approx can hinder my chance of getting into a top engineering school like MIT, Stanford (reach), CMU or even UCB, given that my grade 9 & 10 CGPA has remained a perfect 10/10, and I'm confident that I will score a 90%+ in my grade 12 first term and half yearly exams.
Just in case this is required :
SAT I - 740 M, 560 CR, 720 W (will attempt the SAT again in May)
SAT II - Not yet attempted
Extra curricular : President - Student Council, several more leadership positions, Winning a national science fair, 2nd position in a national elocution, winning a national researched report competition, 4 MUNs, several prizes in Quiz including 2 televised quiz shows and also having remained a member of the school's computer club along with winning a national-level photoshop competition.
Would really appreciate advice on the above mentioned!

Colleges do understand that you cannot have perfect grades throughout your high school life as you are human too. Having said that, 88% is quite good too. Most kids in the Science stream don’t manage more than an 80. Now focus on showing the colleges an upward curve, with your 12th grades sky rocketing.
Also, for a top school like MIT, you really need to work hard on that SAT Score, and you need to ace those subjects tests (physics and math2).
All the best.

Thanks a ton, fix1995!
I also wanted to know how important TOEFL scores are to the top bracket universities in the US. Would appreciate some help with that.

Read through all of it. Then make an appointment with the counselors at the advising center closest to where you live. It looks like there are two in the UAE:

The counselors there are expert at helping students from your part of the world find good places to study here. They will have a good idea about which universities are likely to accept you with your grades and exam scores, and they can help you sort out the whole TOEFL business.
