Albeit not a summer program, I felt this was a good time/place to start a 15-16 CBYX thread. Has anyone here applied? Participated before? Would love to get to know some of you!

I’m from CIEE. Our semi-finalist notifications come on February 2nd. When do yours?
I applied for the FLAG region. Our applications aren’t due until January 31, so I don’t know when I’ll find out if I got an interview. I really hope I will!!!

I got my semi-finalist notification yesterday! Though, I think pretty everyone who applies is an AFS semi, as long as they’re eligible. My interview is at the end of February.

I wish that everyone in the FLAG region got an interview. I can’t wait to find out if I get an interview!!!
@evan241 I’m not sure, but not everyone who applies gets an interview. Fingers crossed and good luck to you as well!
I was going to have my interview tomorrow, but I think it’ll be postponed 'till next week for the weather. That’s okay though, because I just found out about the interview a few days ago…a week will have me more time to prepare!

This may be a silly question, but does anyone want to swap essays (via PM) to take a look at them? I’m reviewing my app and rereading my essays is making me nervous, haha, I would love an opinion on them.
Oh I am glad I found this! I’m in the south so I applied with CIEE back in December. I’m still not 100% sure if going to Germany my junior year is the greatest idea, but it seems like an outstanding experience so I bit the bullet 
. If I am accepted, I’m also a little nervous about placement! Best of luck to all of you :x

I would love to read your essays. I’m really nervous about them as well, so i’m afraid if you read mine you’ll find an error, which will drive me crazy. but, if you send me yours I’d be happy to read through them and give you my thoughts.

@evan241 I thought your essays were really great! They showed a lot of dedication and passion for going to Germany, which I think CBYX is looking for. There were very few minor errors, but I don’t think those will impact whether you get accepted. I think if I was reading your essays for CBYX I would pick you to get a scholarship. But, didn’t you already say that you got an interview? Does CBYX use the essays to pick applicants after they have been interviewed? I thought at this point, it was just the interview that mattered.
So I have a question for all of you…are any of you worried about making friends in Germany? I love people, but I can be pretty shy, and I fear that I won’t be able to make friends. Anyone else feeling this way?
