CBYX 2017-2018

I was an alternate but I got a call last afternoon that I’m now a finalist!!

@gdb5253 Congrats!! Which region?

@hoodle7 thank you! And ASSE

Congratulations! Were you number one on the alternate list? @gdb5253

@germaniscool I know theres a poolof applicants, but there’s not a numbered list :0

Also I wonder how many finalists dropped for AFS, I’m so nervous!

@germaniscool thanks!! Unfortunately I’m not sure. Crossing my fingers that you’ll get bumped up too!

I was an Alternate for AFS and I just got the call/email telling me I am now a Finalist!! I am so excited but now I have to deal with the college situation… :l

I was selected! Oh my god!! I’m shaking I’m so excited!!!
Good luck to all the alternates, it IS possible!!!

@nastywoman I’m deferring from UMass, which college did you apply to?

@hoodle7 @nastywoman Congrats to both of you guys!

@hoodle7 Amherst? or a diff one?

@hoodle7 I was accepted to, and put in my deposit at, the Honors College at UMD College Park, so hopefully they will be flexible about me deferring at let me keep my selected college and scholarship :smiley:

@nastywoman yeah, I’m figuring that out too! I think it’ll be okay though, because its a gap year with purpose! @fangirl1999 yup!.

@hoodle7 so cool!! I’m going to Smith!! I actually got rejected from CBYX (lol rip) but I’m still waiting to hear back from NSLI-Y and even if I get rejected from that too, I’m still taking a gap year. Maybe we’ll run into each other at a party or something lmao (even if we don’t know it)

Maybe your schools are different especially since they’re so big but Smith has been really supportive of students taking gap years, even if it’s mostly working (which mine will likely be if I don’t get NSLIY but i’d still plan on visiting Spain for 2 months and volunteering in Morocco for 2 more)

@Fangirl1999 congrats on Smith! That’s a great accomplishment, and it sounds like you have a lot of awesome opportunities ahead of you :slight_smile: My research has shown that this program is received very favorably by colleges. While I will probably not be able to get college credit, and I would have Spanish credit already, maybe learning German will fulfill more language stuff and at least make me a more interesting person and medical school candidate!

@nastywoman thank you! CBYX is quite the accomplishment as well! I agree, i think the time abroad + language skills + competitiveness of the scholarship will give a nice edge to your med school applications when the time comes. Best of luck! :slight_smile:

@Fangirl1999 Good luck with NSLIY!!
@ everyone else I read that there’s a Facebook group up and running, does anyone know how to be a part of it?

@hoodle7 yes! What’s your Facebook?? I can add you :slight_smile:
