So I didn’t see another thread on this and thought I would put this out here for the community to munch on. I was speaking to a transfer counselor at an Orange County CC I attend who told me that even though I took a lot of units at an LA area CC units in the past, my graduating from my current CC with over 30 units completed locally qualify me as an area student.
See before I didn’t even consider CSUF an option because of the local units requirement, but now I’m hoping to confirm this info. Now to be clear about what the counselor said:
If you graduate from a CC with an actual AT or AA degree, even though you have more units from another area, you are considered a local area student by CSUF and the entrance GPA requirement would be considerably more forgiving. So long as I indicate on my application to CSUF that I am going to be graduating with the degree and not simply transferring, it will put me in the pool of local area student.
What units are counted by CSUF, is it ONLY units that are used to meet all the transfer criterea, or is it ALL units that are CSU?
For me, I was a former bad student with a low GPA, am back in school as an adult and get all As now. My GPA is still not great even if I get a million As, it’s still going to be kinda lowish especially for UCs. I am also applying to UCI and UCR and that GPA for the Fall deadline will only be a 3.232. I’m in Psi Beta and Phi Theta Kappa and do volunteer work with the homeless so I’m hoping that might help. I’m also a recovering alcoholic which is why I had all those Ws and a few Fs, Ds, lots of Cs. I’m applying for academic renewal. If you are in recovery, keep it up !
My CSU GPA if ALL units are counted, not just those I am using to transfer with will be a 3.512 at the Fall application deadline. I will still need to finish the math requirement of Stats which I am taking in Fall, and need to take more psychology courses, one year left at my CC till I will earn the AT (AA) degree I am a psychology major and intend to enroll in graduate school after completion of my undergraduate degree.
So if you can please shed some light on the area student qualification for degree holders I would appreciate it, also if you don’t mind letting me know what you think my chances are with my GPA and situation. Thank you so much, and I wish you all the best !
