CC classes before starting in the fall

My son is an accepted in-coming freshman this fall. He is signed up to take a couple GE classes at our local CC this summer before heading to SDSU in August. I posted on a FB page and several people told me that’s not allowed and he’s not able to do that. I called admissions and they said that as long as he’s accepted, it’s fine and actually encouraged. When I reported this info back to the page, there were still parents saying I need to talk to someone else and make sure the info is correct. I would think admissions would know what they were talking about but now I’m doubtful and am planning on calling back to be sure.

Just wanted to see if any other students have taken cc classes during the summer prior to freshman year?

I don’t have a kid at SDSU, but at Cal, and there’s absolutely no problems with taking classes in the summers at a CCC (he graduated from HS last summer) and transferring the credits over - as long as the class is UC/CSU transferable. In fact he’s most likely going to take a class this summer as well. $225 sure beats $1700 for one class.

I’ll assume there’s no issue with doing that at any CSU as well. Just make sure the class articulates to a SDSU GE as specified on assist.org.

As long as he got the OK from admissions, there should be no problem. My advice is always contact admissions for the final answer which he has been given.
